I finally managed to revive my login and realized that it is 5 years since my last post! A lot has happened since. Covid, change of job, major weight gain (due to combined effects of menopause and prolonged home office with cooking from scratch)... so 2 years ago I finally picked myself up, bought a Fitbit, attempted to establish a healthy eating and excercise routine - and started running again.
Fast-forward to now: for the last 2 years I am 8.5 kg lighter than when I started, i.e. on my dream weight - and running my 5k 2-3 times a week (cannot get under 34 min, though - that is the next goal). On the other days I alternate other kinds of excercise, and I feel that I am in the best shape of my life. But it all started with Couch2 5k, so - thanks!!!

Good post from you Gryllotalpa and congratulations of being 8.5K lighter than when you started with C25K, if you can run sub 35 minute 5K times that is very good, if you wish to run a sub 34 minutes 5K find a route which is mainly flat or with on a very gentle hill, that's good that you alternate other excercises on your non running days. 😊 ✔️✔️
Lovely to see you back! I don’t think we overlapped before but it’s always wonderful to hear from someone who’s kept going in the way you have.
Have you thought about coming over to Bridge to 10k? I found running longer helped my 5k time get a little faster, and there’s often discussion of plans which include runs like fartlek, tempo and intervals which could help with speed too.
For me, the thing that really made the difference was strength work. I had an injury and had to start taking that seriously to get off the couch. I suddenly found I had road runner legs from all the squats, deadlifts, lunges etc! I’ll post the link for the strength and flex board below…
HUGE well done you! Yes, I am still; here, still slow and steady and welcoming so many old forum friends back !
Well done on that weight loss ,and do try, maybe, some longer relaxed slower runs. for a while... then try the 5K again. Slow and long helps everything evolve... distance... and yes ... speed
