We were away in the Derbyshire Dales for my first 2 runs. Oh my what a baptism of fire! First run 167m of climb and second 200m. It was beautiful scenery though and I did end up walking the tougher bits. On the plus side, just got back to home turf and did a relatively easy flat and relaxed run and did a PB again and ran my first 4k in my 31 minutes run time. Obviously all that hill training this week has paid off. Used a NRC guided run today, 'find your run with Dina', which was very good and reinforced all our C25K learning. Happy running everyone šāāļø šāāļø

Itās amazing how great flat runs feel when youāve been running over hills! Congratulations on that new PB.
Walking up steep hills is a tactic experienced trail runners used. Thatās a really sensible thing to do.
Glad youāre enjoying the NRC-there are some super runs on there. Enjoy! ā¤ļø
How fantastic to run in the dales! I know the area well and have walked there often, but so far have only got to run in dull places close to home!
Well done Sax64 , hills can be challenging, especially when you're not used to them, and that sort of elevation gain over 5k or so is significant. Walking is absolutely the right thing to do to conserve energy or reduce the risk of falling.
Thanks so much, good advice. You live in the Cantal region? We've been there a couple of times with our motorhome and fell in love with the place. It's absolutely gorgeous (and so's the cheese mmm) and if you're running there I guess there's no such thing as a flat run!
Thanks Sax64 . I'm not in Cantal dƩpartement itself, but very close. You're right about the cheese and the terrain - as we moved here in 2006 and I only started running three years ago, I just don't know what it's like to run on flat tarmac or pavements. We too have a motorhome, and if I'm running on holiday I find myself actively seeking out hills and trails.
Happy running!
