Shiny medal!

This morning I ran a Race for Life 5k. It was slow and it was unpleasant because I was inexplicably nervous, so totally failed to regulate my breathing, but I did it! I did 2.5k without hardly breathing at all, then walked a little way, gave myself a good talking to and settled into a rhythm that got me to the end. Kicking myself now for not managing to do it the way I've practised so hard , but I was a) a bit overcome with emotion (they play cancer survivor stories at the start) and b) unsettled by running with so many other people. I used to do Parkrun, but haven't done that since before the pandemic, so found it a bit strange. Feeling chuffed now though ... and have raised £270. I was going to cut the grass this afternoon, but it's raining so I might have a cup of tea and a Big Relax 😁

This made me smile that you said you were kicking yourself..😊 Why do we always do that thing of wanting it to be perfect..😂

Just brilliant that you did it at all, as well as the great fundraising effort. You definitely deserve that cuppa and a big relax.. well done!

That’s just brilliant - you got out there and what’s more with other people which I have to say terrifies me as I am so slow - and you raised money to boot for such a worthy cause 🌟👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It terrified me too, but everyone was lovely. It's just a bit weird when you're so used to going solo.

Congratulations! I think everyone who has ever done an event has gone off too fast at some time or another. It’s so easy to do. Everyone warns you not to off to fast but the atmosphere is hard to resist, especially on your first one. You did brilliantly. A day to be really proud of. You earned your bling-wear it with pride! 🏃‍♀️❤️💪🎉🏅

It wasn't even that it was too fast, I just totally failed to do anything other than shallow, ragged, uneven breathing for ages. It was an informal, friendly event, no pressure, so I have no idea why I was so nervous!

The pressure often comes from inside, even if to an outsider it looks like there should be nothing to stress about. When you’re doing something that means a lot to you, it’s really easy to be nervous because you want it to go well. It was your first time too-don’t underestimate how the unknown can set nerves aflame!

You did an amazing thing, even if you found it tough. Sometimes we need a few days headspace before we can appreciate what a brilliant achievement we managed to make. There are always things that could have gone better but please, don’t let that take any joy away from that superb run and fantastic fundraising total. ❤️
