It's been years since I've been on here, so long I can't remember. But I'm here! πͺI used to love running, but struggled to keep it up because of damn cigarettes! I'm nearly 3 weeks quit and today have had a lot of energy β‘.
On my way home from work today I stopped to buy some running gear. Later, for the first time in years, I went for a jog/walk/jog.. round my block. I did it twice, it felt amazing!
So much better than cigarettes...! I wasn't a chainsmoker, but I'd go through about 5 rollies a day to get me by. I used to love them. For 14 years on and off. I have asthma too, and for the first time in 20 years it's flared up since quitting/using vape. Now I'm going cold turkey. A bitter divorce! π€£
Exercise, strong mints, lots of water and lots of determination to keep me on track.
Have a great weekend everyone and keep getting those endorphins pumping!
all good, I'm doing C25K for the third time after stopping for various health reasons. Third time's the charm I hope. I just finished W5r3 yesterday, on to week 6 run 1 tomorrow!
Keep us updated on your progress, this forum is great and very supportive
Thank you Bluemerlegirl yeah, apart from my asthmatic cough, which is probably a part of the process of me transitioning from smoker to non smoker, I feel better about myself these days.
Well done on stopping smoking and welcome to C25K, if you wish you can go walks and a little jogging before you officially start the C25K course with run 1 of week 1, once you do begin take all the runs slowly, keep strickly to the program, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, good luck for your running journey with C25K.
So many friends here, have returned here to repeat all of some of C25K... it is well worth doing and if you take it slowly and steadily and use that energy you are feeling to support you, you should be just fine.
Using some of the energy, on some of your rest days, strength and stamina work is a real bonus.. the Catch-Up Corner post this week is all about that exercise.
By doing that, you will be making your body stronger in every way and your mind too, helping you, hopefully to stay smoke free
You are so obviously full of the joy of getting back to it... try and hold that thought... be kind to yourself and know there may be days when it feel like a struggle. That is where we come in... keep posting please.
