Week 6 Run 2

I was going to do this run on Friday, I was busy clearing as much as possible from the backlog at work due to me having a week off so I scheduled this for Good Friday.

Long and the short of it, I got flu, that's all I'm going to term it, I didn't do any tests, etc, I just had flu.

I got up yesterday and was going to attempt it but I still felt rubbish.

I woke this morning with a headache and still not feeling 100% but I 'HAD' to do it, I popped 2 paracetamol, waited an hour and then headed downstairs to the treadmill.

I threw on the shorts, HR strap and t-shirt and my brand new (just replaced) vivobarefoot shoes and set the treadmill off for a walk.

I decided, with not feeling 100%, I'd start the run and see how it went, I even gave myself the option of not completing it if I felt like it was too much for how I was feeling.

The warm up walk over, I set off at a slow and steady joffle, for some reason I decided I'd switch from Spotify to the radio (via an echo dot in the conservatory where the treadmill is) and I carried on joffling.

Laura then tells me I've been running, sorry joffling, for 5 minutes, and on I joffled.

Not sure why but I checked the C25K app and found that it had stopped and reset to the beginning of the session, with only a guestimate on how long I'd been going I forwarded the app to a minute remaining and completed the segment.

The rest of the run went with no further hiccups, I did manage to peg my HR but I'm going to put that down to not being 100%.

When I'd finished and was cooling down, I checked the activity in Garmin Connect, I was 11 seconds out on the guestimate for the first segment, I'd joffled for 10 minutes 11 seconds.

I'm looking at Saturday, or even Sunday, for W6R3, looking forwards to it already.

That's some excellent mental timing! Well done!

I often end up doing mental arithmetic with the programme and the time on the treadmill to work out where I am currently as I tend to daydream on the treadmill and then forget on which repetition I am :D

It may sound weird but I work in terms of songs that have played, a 10 minute run segment is usually around 3 songs, depending on the song obviously.

I started the run about 1 minute in Human Leagues' 'Life on my own' - just over 4 minutes, that song finished, I paused the next song just after Laura said I was half way through and put the radio on, there were 2 commercials, about 20 seconds each, then Frankie Valli and December 1963 (Oh what a night) which I know is a little over 3 minutes.

Just after that the radio started playing something else, can't remember what that was but at that point I checked my phone and the app had reset, working it out in my head, while joffling along, I worked out that I was 'around a minute off, so I forwarded the app to when Laura said I had a minute to go.

I've always run by the number of songs during the program, when I'm outside and just jogging I don't care, sometimes I don't even have any music playing.

I have my phone shouting at me from my back pockets telling me how much time (runkeeper) but on the treadmill I can see the time (you said you were on the treadmill for this run) and end up calculating what bit I'm on and how long to go :D

Sorry, should have mentioned this, I always cover the timer up plus I normally walk a little before starting the app, sometimes this can be an extra 5 minutes, other times 1 or 2.

Never used run keeper, when I've been outside I've just gone until I decided to stop. Once I'm done I'll look at the time and distance, etc.
