broken foot, broken dream!

I was on my final week of the programme and doing and feeling amazing when I had an accident at home which has resulted in a broken foot. I have to wear a boot for at least 6 weeks. I just wondered when I am able to start running again? should I start from the beginning , or further on? I have pretty mudder 5k in mid May so wanted to get back to full health by then. Any advice or exercises to help would be great!

That's the biggest bad luck you poor thing, I can't advise, never having broken a bone but if it was me I'd cancel the race, get myself healed enough to walk, increase to half an hour and if that's comfortable start right at the beginning, listen to my feet and if there's any pain, stop and walk home carefully. Wishing you fast healing bones

I'd listen to the doctors and physios first, rather than a group of enthusiasts in an internet forum.

It all depends on how and where your foot was injured, how well and how completely you've healed, and how much your range of motion has been affected once it has healed.

You have to wear the boot for at least six weeks. Six weeks from today is May 2nd.

There is no way you could possibly be race ready by mid-May. If you try you could make things much much worse for yourself.

Oh goodness.. that is so hard. But, fear not.. there is plenty of things to do to keep you fit and strong until that 6 weeks is over... lots of seated exercises...upper body work etc...

You will have to wait until the boot is off and then take the advice from your medical experts and your physiotherapist...

But, the good news hopefully after that, will be that you will be able to move forward again .

I have had up to 12 weeks off in the past.. and I am here still running ... there may be folk with similar experiences, but of course we are all so, so different, which is why the advice from your experts is essential and will be your starting point!

The good news is, that the runs and we will wait for you... and if that Tough Mudder is not possible, there will be other chances... do take a look at the Strength and Flex forum... I am sure you will find something to keep you active.

Keep popping in too when you try some of those exercises. please?

Sorry about your accident - what a nuisance. I broke my foot (fifth metatarsal) in mid-June 2019 and wasn't finally signed off by the fracture clinic and given the all clear to run again until early September.

I had to wear the big boot at first though they encouraged me not to wear it all the time. And I did a lot of walking as soon as I was able to do so without much pain. But it still took nearly 3 months for the bones to mend completely. Perhaps took longer because I'm in my 60s and you're much younger, but 6 weeks sounds quite ambitious.

Once i started running again I re-did C25K to ensure I built up the fitness I had lost.

Best of luck with everything and take care.
