After a very long break from running, including recovering from pneumonia, for some reason today I found myself putting on my running gear and heading out!
Being ill over Christmas left me not even able to walk very far, but Iโve been trying over the past few weeks. When my chest stopped hurting I even broke into a trot a few times!
I put on some music and off I went. Warm up walk done and I started to jog. Managed a slow kilometre and stopped to cross the road. I thought 2K would be enough for today and the last half a kilometre was certainly tough. Iโll be walking next week to build my strength up before trying another run.
I wasnโt even going to upload this run, but my mobile decided to do it anyway, so Iโve been rumbled ๐
Good to be back! ๐๐โโ๏ธ

I bet it felt brilliant to have that first run back ticked off. Itโs often such a tough one mentally to start. Hope youโre super proud of yourself. โค๏ธ
You could consider using come of the early weeks of c25k to build back again. Thatโs a really common way to go that works wonders for many people. I did regular fifteen minute runs for a while until I felt ready to move on. Whatever you end up doing, take it really steady, listen to your body and make sure you celebrate how well youโre doing just by being out again.
thank you - yes, itโs been difficult to go on that first run! I did consider repeating some of the weeks on C25K again, but decided on the 15 minute runs. I think that will work well for me.
Welcome back Jools I've certainly missed your posts. Sorry to hear you've been ill but glad you are well on the way to full recovery. Well done on your first run for a while. Onwards and upwards!
Welcome back! Just this morning I was thinking about you wondering how you were doing. There are quite a few of us building back up - me included! So good to have you back! โบ๏ธ๐คxx
Great to see you Jools2020 I was wondering about you tโother day! Sorry to hear youโve been so poorly, but great to see you ventured out, it must have felt amazing. ๐
A great big welcome back! I had only this last week been talking about the group which was around here when I was starting C25K and you and your fenland runs came to mind.
Good to see you back on the forums Jools2020 - sounds like you have had a tough time. Hereโs to getting back out there โฆsafely and in your own time.๐
How brilliant! Welcome back Jools! So glad youโre feeling well enough to start exercising again. Take it easyโฆthe runs will wait for you ๐๐๐ผ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Hello! I was wondering if you were OK. Poor you having pneumonia, how awful. I'm so pleased that you're back, and it sounds as though that 2k went well. I hope you go from strength to strength, all in your own time as you continue to get stronger.
I've been wondering how you were doing Jools! Pneumonia can really take it out of you so it's good that you feel like going for a run again. Take things slow and steady, but of course you know that! Great to have you back!๐ค
Hello Jools, good to see your post! The plovers settled down over here and I was getting out there again, but then I broke down again. It has been a few weeks and I am still recovering very slowly. Take care.
Hi there Jools2020, this is just what I needed to see this morning, well done to you!I too, like many others , have been having a long break from running, due to illness.....I'm now on the waiting list to see a lung specialist...that's a story for another day....but I miss running..๐ฅบ...I've been thinking about maybe starting somewhere in C25K again....to start building up my strength....
However, first I've got the hurdle of being back at work, and managing that potential end of day exhaustion to tackle...
Those are my hurdles, you've done amazingly to get out there so soon after pneumonia! Keep going........you've got this! ๐
Thanks, Cakerunner - Iโve been making excuses not to run for a couple of weeks!
Iโm sorry youโve been struggling with illness, too. Dipping into C25K again is a good idea. Like Beatlesforever has found, Week 6 is good, Run2. Once youโve got used to being back at work. ๐
Thanks, we can do it! I was thinking about 2 options. Go back to Week 6 Run 2 (thatโs 10 minutes running, 3 minutes walking and 10 minutes running) or just go out and run for 15 minutes. All to be done slowly! Good luck with your hurdles ๐
Thanks, Peter. I wasnโt even going to post this short run, but my mobile just uploaded it to Strava! Anyway, Iโm going to spend this week walking and run again next week. Hope you are well! ๐
Well, all my runs are short ones these days, dread to think how long ago I did a 10k, still, better than that couch i guess, keep going while we can! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
you should be really proud of yourself. I too am finding my way back after almost six months so know what an achievement this is, stick in there take it at a pace that is good for you x
Hi Jools it is great you have taken up running again after being so very poorly. I took a very long break years ago now (due to injury) but I am so glad to be back in my week 2! Take it easy.
