Hi everyone. I’m in bed with a cold, first illness in 3 years!
W8R1 should have been yesterday but it’s on hold while I get well. I’m surprised how frustrated I am. Came to the chat to see how everyone’s doing. It’s so nice to hear everyone’s stories. Biggest thing I’ve learnt from the c25k programme is to take it easy and focus on finishing not on speed. I have Denise in my ear and although I’ve run bigger distances and for longer in the past, this feels like the best way to build confidence. Somehow I’ve learnt that I know I can do it. Having Denise tell me that is like me doing positive self talk that I’m not so good at. Can’t recommend this programme enough. Can’t wait to get back running when I’m well. I feel much less worried than I’m the past about taking time out to recover. I know i can get back to it when it’s the right time. Might be back on here for tips about how much.
Thanks for all your lovely posts

Sorry Pingu66 about your cold and illness and not being able to run, run 1 of week 8, congratulations on completing weeks 1 to 7, let's hope that you will soon get back to running after your cold ends which I hope will be very soon enabling you to start week 8. 😊 👍
Poor you! Sending masses of sympathy! I’ve also been floored with a cold recently-I’m finally getting back to normal now but it took a while and it was thoroughly miserable. Patience is often hard to find when you’re surrounded by tissues and empty packets of strepsils!
I wrote a post over on Bridge to 10k about a useful article I found about knowing when you’re ready to restart. Oldfloss has also written about returning after covid. I’ll post links below if you’d like to have a look. They’re not couch to 5k specific so some bits won’t be relevant but the general advice on looking after yourself and how to decide when you’re recovered might be helpful.
The key thing is to look after yourself and come back slowly and gently when you’re really ready. You will absolutely get there. It’s worth taking the time to recover properly now so you can finish in style! You’ve been doing so well and you really deserve to enjoy the final runs of the programme.
Thanks so much MissUnderstanding. I need that kind of advice not to rush back looking to long term goals over quick fixes. Thanks for the links. I’ll look at those. Meanwhile I’ll master my knitting skills!
My crocheting is beginner and my knitting better but my problem is correcting mistakes. Have discovered YouTube fabulous for how to correct mistakes . Love it!
Also learnt to crochet on YouTube as being left handed you can just watch videos flipped round.
Anyway nice to know there are fellow yarn lovers out there.
Who also love to run.
I think the great thing I learned in my late 40’s was that we can just keep learning, trying new things. I used to think people who could swim front crawl must have been born that way.
Until I thought about how I learned to drive a car.
This c25k I think is great for really supporting people to do something they maybe thought was impossible.
It's horrible illness interrupting your well laid running plans 😡.I take my hat off to you for taking C25k on as to be fair penguins aren't really built for running 😂 😂
hi Pingu66 …I hear ya!!! I’ve done w5r3…last week…but I’ve been struck down by an awful cold and cough so I am ITCHING to get out and start week 6 but don’t want to go until I’m 100% better…& neither should you…wait until you’re back to full strength x
Yes definitely wait until you’re totally recovered. I really did rest for 2 or 3 days then have had some fairly long walks in the snow so was itching to get back to running.
I did find it then really hard to set out even after only a week delay
But going really slow to start made it feel fine
Hope you’re back to it soon
I think the biggest thing for me is it really boosts my mood which I really need
