Doing the whole thing again - week 1

My new rehabilitation regime consists of a 1.25km lap followed by the Couch to 5K programme. I completed W1R3 yesterday and I’ll start W2 tomorrow. Yesterday was very hard; I really struggled with the warm-up lap and if I hadn’t had the motivation of being part of the programme again I would have given up and gone home with a sense of failure. One of the drawbacks of getting older (I’m 65) is how much longer it takes to get over things and I hadn’t appreciated how much condition I had lost so I have done the right thing to go back to the beginning and build up my strength slowly and steadily.

It’s good to hear Laura’s voice again and when she asks, “Are you ready?” I reply, “No” just like I used to and start running anyway, just like I used to. My goal is to do a park run when I’m back to doing 5K’s and I want to shed the weight that has crept on inexorably over the past few months. I went to my WW group today and was pleased to record a loss after weeks of putting weight on and I feel quietly confident that I’ve turned a corner. I have to say that posting and replying here is a big part of feeling motivated and I have recommended it to everyone that I’ve spoken to about the programme. I hope I don’t bore you but I will be posting here regularly because well, it’s good to be back.

Sorry you have had to go on the Injury Couch but well done on getting running again and yes, redoing the programme sounds like a good idea, no rush to get back to 5k, it'll still be there waiting for you when you are ready and back to full fitness.
