So I did it! Not sure of official time; about 47:20 according to my old friend Garmin. Thanks to @roseabi for the training plan, Instructor57 and MissUnderstanding for the guidance and this lovely community for all the support.
Now to break that 45-minute target!

Absolutely brilliant! Congratulations to you…you total legend! Really delighted for you that you got to this point and are able to celebrate such a huge milestone in getting back to parkrun again. Just fantastic news 🏃♀️💪❤️🏅
I was going to reply with exactly what LottieMW has said! Almost word for word! Thank you for that Lottie! ❤️
The only thing I’d add is when you say you “need” to look at Bridge to 10k, you only have to do that if you want to! There’s no pressure to keep increasing your distance and if you’ve found a way to enjoy running that’s sustainable with life and staying injury free, you can do that for as long as you want to. We also don’t have any real rules about where people post either-it’s nice to have a variety of ages and stages across all the boards.
Just keep updating with what you’re doing (whatever that happens to be!) and we’re all ready to cheer you along 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Well done Lil! 5k is one of those milestone distances…how great to run it at a Park Run!
Bridge to 10k is more of the same…it’s all about taking it easy, and building endurance. So no need to worry about a sub 45 minute 5k first.
If you you drop in and have a nose around on the B210k forum, you’ll see there are a couple of plans to build up to 10k (if that’s what you want!). JuJu’s Magic Plan has 2 approaches…one is time based, so your eventual target is to run non stop for 60 minutes…or the distance based one, where you reach 10k.
As someone with you ‘at the slow end’…I found the timed version best to start with. If you want to inject some variety in your running, you could try the Nike Run Club free app, and use CBDB’s links to run their 10k plan. They’re all coached runs, most are run at the good old easy/conversational pace, apart from the occasional speed runs…
well done! 👏👍having got that habit back up and running, you can build at your own pace. Every 5 K is doing you so much good…..the time is honestly not even that significant, just the fact you run 5K steadily every week is a triumph 👏👏
