Was anyone else bombarded on social media with different new runs to sign up too? Well I have chosen for my January motivation to run 40 miles for The Royal Marsden as you can do it at your own pace don’t have to go anywhere special my kind of thing!!
I love a bit of motivation especially when it’s cold and wet outside, New Year’s Day run completed after sitting around for the festive season not too bad but looking forward to a month of motivated running.
And let’s not forget Adrienne’s 30 days of yoga always a must do for me too 🧘🏼♀️

It’s great that you’ve found something that you find personally motivation linked to a cause that’s one you care about. Is 40 miles a month similar to the mileage you’re doing right now?
This might be a bit of a rant and it’s only my personal view on them. I’m sure many would disagree with me. I find those sorts of posts really annoying and I’m ignoring them all. I think they can make people significantly increase their mileage over what’s sensible. They can make you push through when you really ought to rest. They make it sound like all that’s required to suddenly start running a long way is the will to do it. All those things seem quick routes to getting injured or down if it’s too much too soon.
I would seriously caution any of our new runners and recent graduates to think carefully about signing up for that sort of challenge. Think about whether what it’s asking matches how you can run now. If you’re starting couch to 5k or consolidating, it’s best to just focus on that.
There’s a YWA challenge starting over on strength and flex-I love the January yoga plan. Sadly I’ve hurt my wrists so a lot of it is out for me this time around. Maybe my February will be January this year!
Agreed I never push myself too far, it’s a reasonable length if I keep to my three runs a week each just over 5k and basically as long as they get their sponsorship you could run less! It’s being part of an encouraging group and having a goal and a reason other than the usual of keeping sane and fit!!
I must say I have never had such a bombardment on social media wonder if the charities are suffering due to the current crisis.
The run a really fancy is the wine run in Dorking 🍷🍷
Oooh, wine run! Given I managed to fall over recently totally sober, I might give that one a miss myself but I’ll raise a glass to you if you do it!
Charities are definitely struggling. I’ve got a friend working in the sector and their donations are all down on last year. It’s really sad.
Sounds like your challenge will really suit you, and I wish you lots of luck. I hope I didn’t come across as too negative. We’re about to get a load of couch to 5k newbies on this board post new year. I can see that this sort of challenge could be really good at the right stage of your running journey, but when you’re just starting out and distance covered is totally irrelevant, that probably isn’t it!
Happy new year Wavy-chick! Great to see you've got a challenge on the go 😀. I've hardly ran recently and looking at my 1000km challenge from last year see I've still got 708km to go to finish it 🤭. Mostly a result of covid then 3 other colds, spending time hiking and the weather. This year I'm planing to finish it and get the colouring in shoe completed, that challenge should get me back out there regularly. Good luck with your January 40miler!
Hiya tmbtrain lovely to hear from you ! You know how I love some motivation my training shoe colouring in was removed from the fridge when we had house up for sale , sadly that all fell through and I forgot to put it back!!
House selling will continue soon but no rush But I am going to be looking after my Grandaughter Seren who will be one soon!! So need to be fit Nana 😂
Sorry to hear about dam covid followed by colds these germs are everywhere people falling like flies at work.
We need the spring to rock up then we will be dashing out like the gazelles we are 😜
Oh nightmare on the housing front, hope that works out for you soon.
Thats lovely you'll be looking after your grandaughter 😃, perfect motivation for keeping fit. What a lovely name too!
Yes roll on the spring. I went for my first run of the year yesterday and did 4km and what was forecasted to be a sunny with clouds day turned into heavy rain mid run. Thank goodness I didnt wait another 15 mins to go out or it would never have happened!
I accidentally pressed something on Strava and found I'd signed up to run a marathon in January. Couldn't find how to un-sign but it seems to have disappeared so I'm hoping it's got the hint!
