Week 9, run 1 completed and all good

I can’t believe how quickly time seems to have passed since posting for my C25K Week 5 runs. Anyway, I’ve kept going with 3 runs a week, which have become an integral part of my life and routine.

The contents of my ’running box’ have increased and now include a running jacket and running trousers. I’m still running on the treadmill and my aim is to go outside for my consolidation runs x3 per week, once I’ve completed C25K.

After completing run 1 of Week 9, I reflected how doing C25K has helped me in so many ways. I have grown in confidence and now feel like ‘a runner’. My mental and physical health have improved so much from doing C25K and I’m so grateful for the kind and positive comments from people along the way.

I recall Tim responding to my first two posts on this forum and then was saddened, like many, when I heard of his passing. His encouragement to me in his replies did really offer motivation and have helped me to keep going on C25K. Also, reading some of his general posts offered lots of sound advice, encouragement and wisdom.

Tomorrow morning, I’m due to do run 2 and then run 3 on Thursday morning. It feels a bit surreal that I’m writing this but it also feels amazing. I’m so grateful that I have not suffered any injuries whilst doing C25K but am convinced that pre and post stretching is the key. In fact, I have actually gained so much from stretching and tend to also do these on non-run days as well. From doing C25K and a stretching routine, I’ve re-connected to my body-awareness and how nurturing my physical health enhances mind, body and soul.

Thank you for reading my post.

What a lovely post to read! It’s amazing how many ways that running can have a positive effect on us.

I remember you talking about your run box before-great idea. You might need to start planning on an addition to celebrate finishing. You’re so nearly there.

One thing to think about when you start running outside is that some people find it more challenging than on a treadmill. Pacing is different. The terrain will work slightly different muscles and stress your body in a slightly different way. It might be worth planning a shorter runs or considering loading up an earlier week of c25k as you start running outside. This is not to put you off at all-running outdoors is brilliant and I love it. I’m sure you will too! Just be aware that it is a little different and might take a little time to get used to. It’s absolutely worth it though.

Good luck! 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️

Great summary of your progress and personal gains from C25K. It's truly uplifting and a feeling to cling on to and etch into your psyche. This is a journey which in my case has enhanced my mental strength (confidence) which has helped me immensely with my physical health in recent weeks. Keep posting and keep running.
