week 6 run 3

I have just completed week 6 run 3.

Feeling very happy about it but I'm very slow. It works out at 10.09 mins a km.

My other half says this is really, really slow.

Should I be aiming to speed up a bit now?

In a word 'NO'

And congratulations on your progress!

Your best development will come from running at a conversational pace .

This is the best way to develop your aerobic base,

Remember , this is not about distance or speed , it's about duration .

Carry on as you are , your doing just fine 👍

Your other half needs to do some reading around how best to develop as a runner. The short version? Run slow! You might that find over time, your pace naturally increases but it absolutely doesn’t matter if it doesn’t.

You’re doing really well. You’re running in a way that you enjoy and you’re making great progress. Who cares whether that’s slow or not? Send your partner round here and we’ll set them straight!

Well done on your progress Flybe !

Is your other half an experienced runner? If so, they should know better than to be criticising you and calling you slow. It's discouraging, unfair, and the wrong advice into the bargain. If not, they would do well to stop commenting on something about which they know nothing.

Keep on at your pace, and have fun!

I kept my running C25k a secret from my fam as I knew my OH would take the wotsit. He did when he found out. “What you’re doing”, he said “is not running, it’s jogging” I didn’t respond, I merely plotted to make him eat his words. Mwaaaaahaha 👹When I did my first race I didn’t tell him. He’s not laughing now 😁

Jog or run I don’t care. It’s all great! 😀

When I first started C25K my husband kept telling me about how he used to run thirty years ago. I think he thought he was being helpful. It faded out after a while, probably around the time I reached HM distance. 😁

No you don’t need to speed up one jot! Your run, your pace. It sounds as though it’s really working for you too, which is brilliant 😊. Good luck with your next run.

Tell your other half to mind their own business. 🤣 Everyone needs to find their own pace. Once you can comfortably run for 30 mins at a time you can work on speed... if you want to! You're still training your cardiovascular system and your leg muscles. Don't get sucked into other peoples ideas. Just keep working your way through the programme and enjoying the benefits 👍🏻

As everyone else has said, ignore your other half. Run your own race and don't compare yourself to anyone - except your pre running self .

Thank you all so much. I told him to get off his backside and join me but not a chance x

That's a shame, it would have been fun to see if he could keep going at the "correct" pace for 25 mins! 😂

don’t bother about what he’s doing just get out there and get round however you want. My husband was decidedly sneery but it just made me more determined. I cried with temper on a run once as he was so dismissive. It did absolutely no good though so I just cracked on

He came round though! He is now my main supporter and buys me all sorts of running gear and drives me to races. So there is hope that your man will change his mind 😀🤞🏃‍♀️

Well done for getting thus far hopefully without injury. Slow and steady was my motto and if you enjoy it and are getting fitter and stronger then you are a winner. Michael Johnson said in an iterview a few years ago, run your own race and I have found that sentiment really useful. We are all different and progress at our own pace. Enjoy the rest of your running journey 🏃🏼‍♂️
