Running after several illnesses!

Hi all

I made it up to the end of week 5 of C25K and then went on holiday for a week.

On my return I had cellulitis in my lower left leg and ended up on antibiotics for 4 weeks.

Following this I had a bad cold, recovered, and went for a run. I repeated run 1 from week 5 and felt OK.

The next day, I tested positive for COVID!

I’m starting to feel better and almost ready to start exercising again.

I’m planning on starting with a few easy sessions on my bike trainer, before recommencing C25K again.

Would it be wise to start from week 5 again or would it be more sensible to start from the beginning?

Any advise is appreciated.

Hi Mr_Susan , welcome to the forum! What a set of horrid happenings, and all credit to you that it hasn't put you off returning to C25K.

After all those illnesses, particularly Covid, I don't think that restarting at week 5 is advisable. Going back to the beginning again would be the most prudent way to go about things. If you simply couldn't face that, then maybe start from week 3.

Also, if you haven't already done so, do check out the How to run C25K FAQ: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Enjoy C25K!

My experience is that even if you feel fit after recovering from illness, your muscles, tendons and ligaments might not be as fit as your aerobic system, and by ramping up too fast or continuing from where you were before illness, you are putting your system under considerable strain.

I recently pulled a muscle and posted my sleuthing on the source of that incident.

It’s hopefully an interesting read but there is a serious note behind all that…. in essence, take it slow, specifically when recovering from a break.
