Back to running after illness

Hi everyone, I posted on the 18/06/20 about finish the third run of week 6. It was a bit of a struggle but I managed it. Since then, I’ve had 11 days where I haven’t done any running at all. This has been down to a bout of illness.

I was wondering what suggestions people may have for starting up again. Do I re-run the last run of week 6 or do I go back a few more weeks? I doubt that going straight into week 7 would be advisable.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running, so you should, if fully recovered, be able to pick up where you left off.

All any of us can do after a longer lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.

Take it easy Pinkyoga you won't lose fitness after 11 days. Try starting wk6 again, if that's too hard go back a werk. Go nice and slow, you'll be fine

I’ve just been off a week. Thought I would experiment to see if I could run my next run. It was a struggle but I did. Just experiment....go for the normal next run. See how far you get. If you fall short, drop back a run next time ?

I am in the same boat (although still in sick bay), very frustrated that I can't continue my journey just yet.... 😔 I was just getting into it too.

I'm sure you will get the answers you need, I think there is always someone who has been through any given scenario.

Good luck with your next run...whichever you decide to do... I had competed w6r2 and currently thinking I should go back to w6r1 as going out to do a straight 25 seems too much. Will give you a follow, if that's OK, do I can follow your journey back 😊 😊

Hi Plattszo! I’m sorry to hear your not feeling well either. I can 100% relate to how you are feeling. I have also felt frustrated too and was just starting to really enjoy getting out and exercising.

I think it’s important to rest and when you feel up to it, start again gradually, depending on how you feel. I’m hoping to give it a go tomorrow, maybe start at the beginning of week 6 again. See how it goes!

Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon. Thank you for the follow, I have followed you in return :) x
