Getting back out there.

After almost a two year hiatus I'm back on the pavements trucking away. Stopped due to knee pain that I couldn't resolve, then just fell out of the habit. Just had to get started again as it helps my depression and anxiety so so much. So this morning in the rain I ran for 30 mins , 4.01 km . I slowly jogged for 10 mins , then walkedf for 2mins and repeat.so managed 30 mins of running which I'm chuffed about. Was 61 a few days ago and I'm not ready to give up on life just yet.

Anyone else running more for mental health benefits than physical health benefits?

Congratulations on getting back out there Rungranny , and as you're a year younger than me I'm extremely relieved to hear you're not ready to give up on life just yet!

Just a little word of caution - while managing 30 minutes on your return is an achievement, if you haven't run at all for almost two years, it would be advisable to restart C25K. I do realise that might feel frustrating when you've previously been able to do much more, but building back gradually would reduce your risk of injury.

There are quite a few other returners as well, so why not look out for Oldfloss 's Catch-up Corner post in a few days? Maybe have another read of the How to run C25K FAQ as well, just to refresh your memory: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Happy running!

Thanks for your response, I should have explained that after a break of two years that wasn't my first run!! I have started with C25k over the past 4 weeks and worked back up to that . I think I was so pleased to be back I just had to write it . Definitely slow progress for me , I don't care about pace or distance as long as I'm enjoying it.

🤗 Delighted you are back with the rest of us mature runners!! However please don’t risk a knee injury again… the 5 min walk at the beginning and end of the run is vital & perhaps dropping back a few weeks of the program to build up your physical fitness. You run mainly for the mental benefits running brings…however if you are not cautious about doing too much too soon you end up on the injury couch… there are many of us making a comeback so join in the fun of it! Well done 👏
