It's pretty much the law to have a rubbish run somewhere in weeks 7-9, whether it just feels ghastly or needs to be repeated because you didn't run the whole thing. You're into a new mental stamina ballgame. And it is good to get it out of the way because so much of being a runner is not being derailed by this sort of thing. Remember, you have 22 successful runs under your belt!
hi, thanks for your reply. Yes the 22 runs sort of made me feel invincible, even at 57 years old. I suppose I’m just feeling disappointed with myself. I did stay out for my 28 minutes, I had 4 walk breaks though. I’ll go again Saturday. Thank you
Firstly we don’t use the F word here, that was a practise run, you got off the couch and went out? you ran just for less time than you expected? Awesome, be proud, you’ve kept going on this program for8 weeks.
Secondly, everyone gets tough runs that just don’t seem to happen, take a rest day or two, go a bit slower and go again , we will be here to cheer you home
hi. I won’t be using the F word again! I’ll go again Saturday and get the job done. I found the run a lot tougher than Mondays 28 minutes for some reason. 🤷♂️
😀lots of reasons a run is tough and it’s always a bit disappointing when it happens but if you start nice and slow on Saturday you’ll get the time, and we always learn something from the tough runs
I’ll look out for your post, I do remember a totally awful run about week 7, it went wrong from the start and I returned home after about 9 minutes feeling totally rubbish but next time out breezed it, C25K took us about 3 months but i can now run a gentle 10k and have several times so slow and steady gets us there in the end
Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.
PRACTICE RUN not FAILURE!!!!!
Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

No run is a failure, you went out and did your best! I joined this forum at week 7 because i too was struggling. The advice i was given was slow down my pace. I thought i couldn't possibly do that, im slow enough already but i listened and it worked! I am a snail but slowly increasing pace naturally the more i go out. I have run 35 minutes now and it's all because of the fantastic advice i was given.
Give it another go and im sure you will get there. Good luck x
Hi, this really does happen to everyone occasionally. I did c25k in the first lockdown and am still running regularly. I went out last Saturday for a so called "long" run on my current plan and after 15 minutes just knew it wasn't going to happen, I was totally drained just as you described in your post. I took a VERY gentle jog home, drank plenty of water, chalked it up to experience and tried again on Monday when I ran better than I have for a couple of weeks.
In my case I am pretty certain that it was lack of hydration on the day BEFORE the run (last Friday was a busy day)-I get caught out now and again but as you have found out it's all part of being a runner.
hi. Yes I think hydration is my problem, I don’t drink nearly enough water. Time to switch from coffee! Itching to go now, Saturday isn’t coming quick enough.
I'm a big coffee drinker too-espresso all the way.- To improve my hydration I try to have a glass of water everytime I have coffee-it helps except on days when I am too busy to make the coffee!
I drink way too much coffee. I found water boring then the wife suggested I add cranberry cordial to it. It’s ok but just isn’t Nescafe! I’ll get used to it I suppose.
I wouldn’t let it get to you. You might have run too fast or maybe it was just an off day. We’re human and these things happen and are also the joys of being a runner. Do the run again and you’ll probably do it without a problem.
