Wheezy week8 run2

Had to stop after 10 mins. Just couldn’t get enough air into my lungs. It was like the biggest intake of breath I was taking was not enough each time and eventually it just beat me.

I’ve mild asthma, could it be because of this?

I will try run2 again tomorrow.

I’d definitely take the rest day - these are vital & it wasn’t a total failure - you got out there and ran. You’re probably just going too fast. This is really about learning to run for 30 minutes, the speed & distance are for another day! If you haven’t seen it already there’s a short film on youtube showing the Japanese slow jogging technique. I run this way all the time and first saw it in w6, wish I’d seen it earlier. Don’t be disheartened - we’ve all had ‘bad’ runs. But you tried, and when you've rested, try again nice and slow & you’ll be fine.

I do feel like I am going fairly slow and I’d a good pace for week8 run1; thought i’d it cracked then so bit annoyed about this one. Anyway il maybe leave next run til Sunday, thanks for the advice

Pace will come. When we’ve completed c25k we’ve run for a little over 8 hours, which is great, but not a huge amount. As novice runners we are prone to injury so doing c25k slowly is completely fine. There’s a lot of info now on slow running being a good way to build strength and stamina and get faster later on. Focus on the 30 minutes, in time when you have more hours of running under your belt, you can work on pace with much less risk of injury. Push too far, too fast and you can end up on the injury couch with no running at all :(

I'm not asthmatic but my son is and he is quite wheezy at the moment. I think there is a lot of pollen in the air at the moment. Try again another day. Even if you only manage 11 minutes next time (look at me saying "only" when I can just about do 90s! 😂) then it's still a positive step forward. You will get there but I understand how disheartened you must feel. Look back to week 1, i bet you never expected to manage 10 mins but look how far you have come! 😊

Could be the asthma, as with reply above, my daughter is struggling a little at the moment

I’ve remembered we had work done to an open fire in the house the other day. There was a lot of black dust settling over a few days after it. I think this is the culprit. If my asthma hasn’t settled by Monday il phone the GP.

Can you speak clear ungasping sentences aloud as you run?

If not you are going too fast.

I’ve never been able to speak. Never understood how to run and speak when Jo Whiley kept saying I should be able to. I will now slow down!

Can you walk and talk? If so, you can talk and run slowly. You may be able to walk faster than your gentle jog. This is all explained in the guide to the plan.

Hey all, just to let you know I completed week 8 run 2 today. Good times! My breathing isn’t completely sorted but I do think it was related to heavy dust in my house last week. I took it slow and steady and every time I realised I was speeding up, slowed it right down again. Thanks all for your replies and encouragement as always.

Do you use your blue inhaler just before you go out?

I did today, also took it with me just in case but didn’t need it.
