week 7 run 3 injury 🙁

have been really enjoying my couch to 5k “journey” what an unbelievable difference it has made to so many aspects of my life over the last 5/6 weeks, everything has just seems better why didn’t I do this earlier!!?

anyway set off on my week 7 run3 yesterday beautiful day for a run in Shetland, which basically means no gales, off at a steady pace when I had to make a step to the side to get past a couple who were walking towards me as soon as I moved direction I felt (and pretty sure I heard) something go in my right calf. Instant dismay was hoping it was just a little twinge but couldn’t walk it off so trundled back to my ship feeling pretty dejected

Haven’t got the injury assessed yet, still pretty sore and walking with a limp . Been slowly testing the movement of the muscle and have been able to get up in my tiptoes so I think it is just a strain rather than a tear. I have a foam roller I was going to give a go but not sure if I should with an injury?

amazed how disappointed I was that I will not be able to run for a little while, but looking at the positives I couldn’t run 6 weeks ago for more than a minute and 3 days ago I ran 4km in 26ish minutes

any advice on recovery or is rest the key and start where I feel comfortable again in the programme

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress and commiserations on the injury.

Follow the PRICE principles and check out the NHS Sports injuries page linked to in the

guide to the plan, which is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Get advice from a medical professional if the condition persists.

Take care and enjoy your journey.

So I rested for 10 days and did some strengthening exercises. Went for a run and stopped when I felt my calf was getting a little niggly ,walked a bit and did some light stretching and set off again on a slow run to complete week7 run 3 again. Calf felt ok, if a little stiff, so 2 runs in to week 8 now and can see that finish line coming in 9 days time when I start to run by my choice, rather than following the plan, and I will run wish I had done this 5,10 years ago
