Finally got myself motivated to get back to running, feeling very unfit

Day 1 and limping afterwards, sore side of foot !!

Not what I was hoping for 👎🏻

Hopefully all ok by next run

That’s the hardest run out the way, why is your foot sore? shoes? socks? Well done for getting started, do read the guide in the pinned posts and go slow and steady. Most of all have fun it’s a great thing to do

No idea what has caused it as wearing good running trainers and socks, hobbling around the house now I’ll have a look at the posts thanks

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Have you had a gait analysis? You can buy the most expensive running shoes in the world, but if they are not suitable for you and your running style they can do more damage than good.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration, buying shoes and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Be kind to yourself and take it nice and easy and don't run in pain.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks so much for this info. I will check it all out I did get checked out some years ago and told to buy neutral running trainers

Nice to get such positives responses, will spur me on to get back to it

Welcome!

As IannodaTruffe hinted at, don't run again until you've got over the pain.

Which side of the foot? The inside or the outside? Top or bottom?

It’s at the outside at the bottom/base to side of my foot if that makes sense!

Do you think you were landing your feet on their outside edges? Were the shoes tightly laced? Do you have high arches in your feet? (Just throwing out some random ideas.)

A good running shop (not a sports warehouse known for its outsize mugs) might do a proper gait analysis.

I wasn’t conscious of running differently, never had this before but it has been a long time since I’ve run!I’ll definitely get a gait analysis if this persists

Thanks
