Been a while!

After finishing this programme nearly 2 years ago (madness where the time has gone!), I've not really ran much since getting a dog in September 2021 - probably 5 times max!

However, this weekend I've decided to get back it on a regular basis whilst the kids are off school and life in the mornings is a little less rushed!!

Keeping in my that I never ran on consecutive days when I was running on a regular basis, this is what I've done recently.

> On Saturday I did a 2km

> On Sunday I did Week 1, Run 1 of the Couch to 5k with my 9yo daughter and she enjoyed it - very proud of her for sticking with it - She's self conscious that she's not very fast at school so hopefully doing this with her will make her realise that there is more to running than running last all the time. She's completely in charge of the app (to get it started) and the headphones so will tell us when it's time to run and stop. Hopefully she'll stick to it, especially as she's found a playlist where a punk bad covers a bunch of Disney songs :D :D

> This morning I did a 3km

I'm most likely going to do W1R2 with my daughter tomorrow, have Wed off and potentially go for another 3km on Thursday and finishing off Week 1 with my daughter on Friday. She's been promised a sweat band if she finishes the week as she has stolen mine lol!

Good to see you back.

All the reasons that we advise new runners to avoid running on consecutive days still apply to you, since you have not maintained the habit and will have lost most, if not all, of your conditioning.

When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased.

If you want to be the best runner that you can be, then do non impact cross training on your rest days, which will be far more beneficial than running every day. It is not recommended for new runners to run on consecutive days until they have a minimum of six months regular running on their legs.

This goes for your daughter too.

Always better to err on the side of caution.

Take care .

Thanks pal. I think my daughter is more than happy with the rest days. I'll try and plan my solo runs differently some how. I think my daughter would be happy for me to just watch eventually. We'll see!

Six months. That's the answer to the question I haven't gotten around to asking. Happy days.

Kudos on going at C25K again with your daughter 👍, and you're so right speed 👀 it's overated!!

But given that absence from regular running watch out for an injury sneaking up on you with the consecutive days of running....... Rest days let those micro muscles repair and strengthen.

Disney tunes 🌟

Good luck both

Great to see you back here !And good that you are running again.

That's great to have got your young daughter into the program, what a great thing to do and I hope she enjoys it 😁

Only other thing I would say is be mindful of running on consecutive days having not done much recently.

Although I see you are being realistic with the distances .

You may still have aerobic fitness but remember your resistance to injury may have reduced .

Good luck to you both 😁👍

Thanks pal! I'm definitely more in tune with my body than I was when I started Couch to 5k the first time around so I'll keep a closer eye on it this time!

Even though we were planning on going out tomorrow morning, I'm already thinking about going out tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning instead!

Another thing that is different for me from when I first start this programme in 2020 is that i'm walking much more now thanks to the dog. I'm hitting at least 10k on a daily basis which is something I've never done.

I'll keep you all posted!

p.s. - Do you know if there is a way to make posts on here without people being able to comment? Writing down my experiences really helped me and I'd like my daughter to do the same where she can maybe get some 'likes' but avoiding comments at the same time (she over analyses everything!)

Your daughter would have to be over 18 to be a member of the forum and post in her own right.

Only admins can switch off replies to posts.

Hello Kish247! I do remember you from some time ago, so it’s really nice to see you here again.

And so fabulous that you and your daughter are running together. And a dog! Nice! Sounds like the dog was the best motivation for staying fit by walking …. and …. we also have a walking forum … just saying …. 🤣 ( healthunlocked.com/active10 )

I’m still running, after having been on the injury couch for a couple of months. But also still running only 2-3 times a week. I do non-impact rowing ca 5-6 times per week, and that suits me perfectly!

If she likes analysing her activities, which I can really relate to, maybe a fitness focussed diary might be just the thing! (See pic)

I - only in march this year - started one but have completely fallen in love with writing down “my numbers” and it’s an additional motivating factor for me.

So getting her a really nice diary (There is a beautiful - although a bit costly - planner called Legend Planner), might be a great running present! 🎁

Keep running you two! Awesome!

Love the idea of a hard copy fitness diary. Great to look back on.

That's great that you are encouraging your daughter. I wish more schools just encouraged running for fun rather than racing. Well done.
