My first 5k!

After a week without running because of the heat, I really struggled to motivate myself to get out there today! Told myself that I would do 25 mins just to ease back into it and then get back to my 30 min runs next week.

However, once I started, something strange happened and I found myself wanting to carry on - I ran past my house twice, so could easily have stopped - I ended up running 5k for the first time! It took me 40 mins but I’m really not bothered about speed - I just can’t believe I ran for that long without stopping!

Congratulations on your first 5k.You technically breached the 10% rule used by most experienced runners to avoid stepping up training load too much and increasing injury risk.

Of course it doesn't inevitably lead to injury, but it is wise to be aware of so that you know before you start your run what the maximum distance/duration will be.

There is more information on the 10% rule in this post healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Keep running, keep smiling.

I've just done my third Parkrun following C25K and am delighted with my consistent hovering around 40 minutes +/- a few seconds. Speed isn't everything, I've found consolidating at this distance is getting easier and much more comfortable with heart rate largely in aerobic territory for me which means that I can start to increase my pace or distance should I wish. (M70 lifetime non-runner until April of this year) PS I enjoy every run so far, no injuries, it's just for me!

Well done! How good to reach the 5k mark as it doesn’t usually happen within the programme (running for 30 mins is still great but we strive to get to that 5k)! You must be so proud 🥹👍🏻
