Twelve weeks ago today at 9.00am I had a severe stroke but speedy and hugely skilful care had me in hospital and thrombolised inside 3 hours and mostly recovered physically, but profoundly shocked (still) mentally. I needed answers and to gain some control to stop it happening again. From the experts it's one of those 'we don't know why it happened events' , so I started researching and came across a BHF link to C25K. Well I can do that and if it doesn't kill me I will have got to three months and eliminated the period where a second stroke was most likely! The programme is effective and unlocks the potential within. If you have mobility try it out. BUT I must give a big big SHOUT OUT to the coaches, who helped in the early weeks with great advice. THANK YOU, and I wish you well in your own battles.
For me, I'm not a runner but I can maintain my jogging pace for more than 30 minutes and will carry on the same routine with Parkruns as a target.

What an awesome story - very well done for taking control and achieving your graduation badge! The medics were all very surprised that I'd had a heart attack 18 months ago, so I completely get how you feel. Nevertheless our health events were just that (events) and don't dictate the rest of our lives - far from it. I'll be joining you on the podium in 2 weeks so save me a space, and I look forward to hearing about your park runs 😊
Thanks for the reply and I agree about 'events' but it would be nice to confine it to a 'never again event'. 🤪 And of course the affects of the event spill over to other people's lives and how they imagine their futures and naturally they worry. Almost all my family support network were appalled at the prospect of me running, it was so far from their comfort zone of what 'me' is, let alone be part of a recovery programme. With the exception of two of my grandchildren who joined me on a couple of week two runs. For one, it was probably as challenging as it was for me, she having anxiety about becoming asthmatic. (It didn't happen) And my 12 year old grandson who could run all day was so patient, gentle and checking the pace was OK! Sharing this challenge so early on was essentially part of that commitment and engagement. I have the words of my childhood " take it, it will do you good" slightly tainting the experience of running, but C25K has shown me how to have a different sort of cardiovascular exercise which is without question doing good. I am looking forward to a Parkrun for the solidarity, apart from the above couple of runs, C25K was a solitary experience. Thanks again for your on point reply.
Congratulations! What an amazing story and so very well done. I hope your experience inspires others to take up C25K as it’s the best thing to do for your health and wellbeing. Keep on running!
Congratulations on finishing the programme! 🥳 I hope you have many more running adventures ahead and continue in good health. There are various suggestions for consolidation, but after that - why not come on over to the Bridge (to 10k)? Enjoy your achievement!!! 🎊🥇🏆🎖🏅
I have the app! I like cycling for longer forms of exercise but it's clear that the running is more immediately impactful cardiovascular exercise and I am feeling the benefits in cycling. Others anxiety is marginally reduced by my running as I'm much nearer the start point and any 'fall' is slower and starts at ground level!!!!😂
