White Rabbits everyone:)

Good MORNING!

June is here, the CORNER revamp is almost complete...almost!

The month of May provided me with time to catch up with a fair few things and I have had some incredible, strength and stamina work in the process. Shed moving , garden re-organisation and extra care time with our small runner in training has worked wonders for my core strength!

The view from the Corner this week, is lovely right now.... greens and golds, yellows and blues...Just the sort of place where we can grab a cushion, and sit a while :)

NOW... because the Corner has been closed for a week, and because numbers in the forum are increasing daily, I thought I would just update any NEW runners joining us, on what the Corner is all about.

So, here we go! ( Apologies to those of you who already know this)!

I have been around here on the C25K forum for ages and we used to, always have a, Weekly Chat... or a What's your week, post.

It was great. I knew many, many folk by name and was able to follow and watch the progress!

Folk , who did not wish to, or have time to, write a long post, could pop in and just chat to each other. It was a place to talk about your running, your successes and your set backs. Just a relaxed line or two, to see where we all were and where we might be going. I relied on those chats when I started Couch nearly seven years ago.

The chats were a place where we felt we were not alone, that there were others out there who were feeling just the same as ourselves with our running.

They really gave meaning to the words, “Friendship is born at that moment, when one person says to another...what, you too ? “

Well, a while back we were desperately short of our volunteer Admin team members and with all our other duties, some posts had to go and these chats were included. We lost our meeting place...

We need to chat, we need to share and we need somewhere to do it. So, I decided with the agreement of the rest of the Admin Team to open up the CATCH-UP CORNER. Back in November it was launched and has proved to be a safe restful place for forum friends to exchange ideas and experiences.

The number of folk on the forum increases daily, the numbers are just mind blowing... and although it is increasingly tricky to keep up with everyone's progress... it is great to have a little, fun post, so we can see who is on which week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

We can Support, Encourage and generally Help each other, in a Positive and Friendly way, with no thought of comparison. We can have a little moan and we can pass on our ideas too.

You can chat here, wherever you are; just beginning, in the middle, or nearly at the finish line of the C25K.

You can chat here, even if you have Graduated, and are repeating bits of C25K again ! We have a fair few folk around at the moment who are doing just that.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run. Just pop in and tell us all about it!

I am really hoping that some of you NEW RUNNERS will give this a try, and will pop in, in a sort of regular way.

Catching up, as we are finding out in these, still quite strange times can be great fun!

I shall post Catch up Corner, each week and be giving some ideas and links here and there, ( and maybe popping on some of my famous ( infamous??) rambling and rhymes!

YOU can add things all through the week and I will be here.

So please, please, do think about joining in the fun, just slip off your running shoes, relax, and just let us know how your running and your exercising is going:)

I shall be giving some of our regulars here a shout out tomorrow, in case they have forgotten where the Corner is located:)

Fingers crossed that we see some of you here very soon.

Oldfloss! x

PS

Please do check out some of the past Catch-Up posts... they will give you an idea of what goes on here x

GOOD MORNING TO YOU TOO Oldfloss ! Thank you for another catch up corner. Well, I agree, the colours are lovely at the moment. Not much to report this end really, except I meant to have a run first thing today, but was well and truly gremlined 🤣. But that’s ok, an extra rest day won’t do any harm, as my runs have been fairly long recently. And tomorrow is a bank holiday so I’ll be able to get up at a more reasonable hour and have time to do a run without the pressure of having to go to work. Prob for another forum but am waiting for my ahem first prescription for ladies of a certain age, you know, when we start getting hot etc, and I don’t mean super attractive! Quite the opposite 😂. I shall be interested to see if this helps with general energy. Watch this space! In the meantime, I hope you have a lovely day and happy running 🏃🏻‍♀️🌺🔆🌸⭐️.

CBDBGraduate in reply toFrenc

Gremlined… what a word. But it sounds like you should pat it on the back at times! I do notice such an improvement when I take a 3-5 day running break at times. And the longer I do this running thing the less I panic of falling off the wagon.

Frenc profile image
FrencGraduate in reply toCBDB

You are so right CBDB ! I’ve been pushing fairly hard recently, for me anyway, and I am looking forward to a nice run tomorrow with hopefully fresher legs! Mind you, they don’t always get the memo 🤣.

And standing there or rather running slowly as I was this morning, asking them, ( aloud), " What on earth is the matter with you ? Doesn't really help either!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toCBDB

Great words isn't it? As IannodaTruffe used to say, the rest days have a huge impact on performance.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toFrenc

Hello!!! Lovely to have you here with us... and welcome! Oh gosh, sometimes things do hijack our best laid plans don't they!An extra rest will most certainly not hurt at all! Plus the extra hols too... sounds like a real opportunity for recharging everything.

The magic M too... such a time for many... my biggest issue( I was lucky I think), was just heat.

Flinging open windows in the middle of winter, and freeing the rest of the family in the process. Apart from that I felt blinking fantastic!

I hope your prescription works for you... it will make a difference and if it improves energy levels well ! Win win!

Have a lovely rest of the day and a great few days off too xx

Good morning Oldfloss and everyone, I'm just eating my porridge, yoghurt and berries after my W7R2. Love jogging now, though it's by no means easy yet. We are off to Scarborough and Bempton Cliffs for a few days so my next run is on Saturday. Have a lovely weekend xx

Hi Floss and everyone - surely it can't be June already! Where did May go?I've had a non-running week, but lots of walking in beautiful Dorset. I took my running gear with me - but I didn't sleep very well, so going out running just didn't happen - I had to conserve my energy for the walks, of which there were many. I feel like I'm still catching up, and my diet took a dive ( too much wheat and carbs, which was delicious but it will take me a week to get back on track and start to feel the energy returning and the carb cravings leave!)

I hereby declare that I shall be good all day and then go for a little run, this evening or tomorrow morning.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply togrumpyoldgirl

That sounds wonderful... doddling around Dorset, in a relaxed? manner :) I know what you mean... where did May vanish too!You had fun and you enjoyed a break from your normal routines. Treats are good and there will be time to get back on track !

If you get out this evening well done. If it is to be tomorrow. it cam be JUBILEE run... perfect!

I got out! A week 2 run again, but that suited me☺️

OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply togrumpyoldgirl

Just perfect... choosing a run that gets you out with maximum enjoyment.

It is so useful for our new runners to read the posts that let them now how, as the running evolves, we become more and more in time with our bodies. We know what is right at the time, even if, sometimes, it means taking an easier route or a shorter run.

Thank you for sharing and well done!

Good Morning OldflossThank you for the catch-up-corner I must admit I do post here but I’ve never checked out your wee corner as yet, but I will it’s on my to do list. The colours outdoors are just beautiful I’m travelling back to the UK in 2 weeks time and can’t wait to see more greenery and flowers etc with all the wild animals running around.

I feel I’m getting back on track after having a cold for a few weeks I got my first 30 min run in today and dedicated to my sister on her 1 year anniversary who died of cancer. I don’t know if the heartbreak ever gets better but I fee I did something in her honour today.

Onwards and upwards to all.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to

Oh, my dear. That run must have been very, very special. What a dreadful disease cancer is.

The heartaches may ease, and lessen, but the happy memories, hopefully, will remain fresh and bright.

30 minute done and you feeling a tad better. You will be glad to get back here and in two weeks time, it may be warmer and more settled too.

I am hoping that in two weeks, the corner itself will be all finished and ready for an influx of visitors!

Do pop in any time and do please share your runs with us. Take care and as ever, keep it steady and slow xxx

Hello, hello, hello, 👋 not sure I count as a newbie or oldie, as I feel both are completely true!

And apologies for this long ramble about this thing we do, our journey of juggling healthy living!

I love the catch-up corner, so thank you so much for spreading out the welcoming picnic blankets and puffing up the pillows! In my mind, it’s, of course, a picnic corner just on that corner patch in your picture, as I am looking at the glorious blue, fluffy-cloud-sprinkled sky at the moment.

My running over the last couple of weeks was reduced to only once per week. Not by choice, but work took a steep upward curve over that time, and I had to commute almost every single day! How did we ever think this was a good thing, I now ask. The time savings that not commuting had returned to me, I had invested into my health and fitness journey, and now I am so jealous of any other activity that eats into my time I want to spend running, rowing, and … flexibilistrengthening. Ok, that word doesn’t exist…. but it should. And hey, now it does here for me!

I am actually commuting and on the train as I write this, so it shows how greedily I fight back in making my own personal health-wellbeing inroads into the new normal, one where the working day rules.

And that’s what all of us do, right? The search to navigate a hopefully rewarding and temptingly delightful fitness journey that winds through our usual activities and duties and obligations and socials that we encounter throughout our days and weeks, that’s the juggle. And sometimes that juggling act has only two balls, but sometimes 6! 🤹🏽‍♂️

And I can tell, as for 2 months, I’ve been keeping track of mine in a more mesmerizing manner than before, getting the idea actually from roseabi here on the forum. So my so-techy self bought a nice paper diary, and I fell in love with journaling again, with a real pen and paper. I used to do this a lot, but tech took over at some point, and I stopped.

But the act of putting pen to paper, listing my runs per week (1 so far this week), my rows (3 so far this week), and flexibilistrengthening sessions (4 so far) is a soul-soothing experience.

I can see I’m progressing, making note of my C25k journey (Week 7 Run 3! Yey! )

And I can see what had been on my mind over the weeks! There was the week where from a post on here, I was inspired to more consciously eat beetroots with their juice. I made a note of that.

Another week, I was pondering if reintroducing milk-based kefir probiotic dairy was a good idea. looking into how it would affect my thyroid-related condition. There is a half-page written in my diary with key findings. I’ll be going for that in the next couple of weeks.

My rowing features in those daily lists, in minutes and km. A big thing for me is that I’m on track to finishing my 10k plan with a 10k row in under an hour!!!!! WOWSA!!!

That’s unreachable for me as a super-slow runner, but as a rower, it’s in my reach!

Last week’s diary page had a question mark after the word “YOGA?” For almost 18months, I did an almost unbroken streak of daily yoga using the YWA channel. I stopped when starting to both run and row. With three runs and five rows per week, my thorough 20min cools-down stretching routine added considerable time to the strength and flexibility category. As I wanted a bit of space for targeted strengthening, something had to give. And yoga was that.

I’m missing that daily practice, and I will return to it, I’m sure. But for now, my current flexibilistrengthening routines will have to do … at least until I can squeeze back my working-at-work life into a reasonable 8-hour day, without a need to waste time commuting or finding myself working well into the evening.

A juggling act, this life, isn’t it?

So here’s to juggling, and telling you all about my juggle journeys here on the catch-up corner!

Frenc profile image

You have managed amazingly even with that commute! 😊😊😊

You are doing wonderfully and the journaling is a great idea...I have all my runs logged since I started in 2015... and reading them brings joy, motivation, happiness, sadness and everything in between.

Low time and dark times are lifted when we look back and realise how far we have come:)

Your juggling sounds pretty skillful to me...I am in awe of everyone her who works and runs and family too! My juggling act is very basic, comparatively!

Sometimes, some things just have to go, even for a sort while and accepting that can be terrifically hard, especially if they were things that benefit us and our well being.

You do well, to get as much in as you do, and thank you for sharing this with our friends here... :)

You can be a noldie... or a newdie :) Either way you are very, very welcome!

I've not been able to run since Saturday due to chaos of having my sister visit for a few days. She was visiting so that we could all see Queen+Adam Lambert at the Manchester Arena last night. She set off for her home (near Llanbedrog) late this afternoon and my first thought was to have a run. Just an "easy" 5km. I didn't want to push myself at all as I felt the difference of having not run for four days.

I hadn't been idle and had done some walks on Sunday morning (on my own) and Tuesday afternoon (with brother-in-law in tow).

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply tonowster

Well done that man! You have not been idle at all, and sometime s, as I well know, life does have this habit of flummoxing our running plans. You had a great time anyway with your sister!

Your easy 5K Sounds to have been successful, and it is good for our new runners here, to see that even our more experienced runners do find that few days off, may impact on how the run feels, and that it is perfectly normal.

Thank you for sharing this with us, it is great to see you here!

Hello all! W7R2 is up next for me tomorrow. I found W7R1 much harder work than W6R3, having experimented with a new, somewhat hillier route. It's also half term here, so I've done a lot of extra walking around farm parks, country estates and stone circles this week and my legs are feeling it. Have just bought a new running vest so it will be me to blame if the sun goes in this weekend!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toLiono

Half term! Bliss...I remember it well; and you are making the most of it, and, that walking will be helping, certainly, to strengthen those legs!

Great idea to experiment with the hills. They really do go a long way to making every bit of your running body stronger.

What I thought, laughingly, were hills, at the beginning of C25K, were really just inclines... but I have hills near me and over the years I have used them for warm ups, and now, I run faster up something than on the flat.

Huge well done to you for trying some of them!

As you move on now relax, and let the newly forming running legs just do now what they know they have to. Let them take you on to the lovely, longer runs and really enjoy the last weeks towards the podium.

Keep us posted please:)

Liono profile image
LionoGraduate in reply toOldfloss

You make some very good points Oldfloss, I was looking at things from the wrong perspective. Extra walking and hills will strengthen my running in the long run so I shall embrace them from now on! (And you're right, they're just small inclines really!) 😊

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toLiono

Exactly, everything we do like this, has a knock on effect, and can be useful. When I first mentioned about hills, some wise person said hills, we just get over them :) Ha ha! I think the same person told me, rain ? It's just wet! You are doing wonderfully and strangely enough, when you do relax and embrace the , whatever it is, that is a tad worrying, it suddenly becomes a whole lot easier:)

Hi Oldfloss . Just saw the tag. The website was playing up for me for a while. I have recovered from Covid and started back on my goal to get that 10mile badge 😁 I did worry how it will affect my runnimg after not running for almost 8days of isolating with some moderate symptoms. My first run after that was meant to be a short 5k run to test the waters again but ended up just walking a longer distance instead, to give me a bit of extra time.

After that it has been back to 3runs a week and sticking to the plan I made while isolating :)

Just completed my 14k run week..woohooo. next week long run is 8k and then 15k the following week and 16k the week after 🤞. The shorter runs are 5k and 4k!

Have been busy with lots of changes happening in work-life in last couple of weeks, have kept the runs going though 👍

Morning! Happy to see the corner again :) I have one more run of week 8, and then it is on to the final week! Yahoo!

My hubby is back in town, he is on week 6 of a slightly different program (12 run, 5 walk, 5 run), and our last run was his first attempt at the hills in our neighborhood. The crazy guy did the hilly loop twice! I'm still only attempting it once, tho the end goal is obviously twice. His pace is way faster than mine, and I have to remind myself constantly that I don't need to catch up.

I find the 28 minutes really hard, mentally. so much harder than 25.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toWhaleSongC

Hello and welcome. The cushion was waiting ! Final week is beckoning ! Yeayayayya!

You are so right not to try to catch up with your, loopy husband! I mean, I love hills but to deliberately go up twice!!!

You just stay at what is now your happy pace. The legs know exactly what they are doing now, so you relax and just let them.

These last runs are perfect for just going with the flow... no need for speed, just run and let the time pass!

Huge well done you! x

WhaleSongC profile image
WhaleSongCGraduate in reply toOldfloss

Thanks for the pep talk :) was great to read before run 3! I trusted my legs a lot more, and my overall pace was a minute slower than last week, but a lot more consistent over the full time.

Yay!

On another note, as a busy mom, taking the time for my physical health has done wonders for my mental health too. I’m amazed how much running gets me out of my head. Also, reminds me just how important me-time is :).

Oldfloss profile image

That is fantastic...very, very well done you! Listening to your body, letting the legs take you and seeing the terrific benefits.

The mental benefits are immense. If we take them alongside the physical, benefits, we realise how great this programme is. I am currently writing a run post on Bridge... one I did Wednesday, all about the mental benefits of our run.

I am glad you are finding the time for you and the time for your own thoughts... as an awesome Mama, you have little opportunity for that, so well done x

Hi, I am back!! After a challenging few weeks I laid out the yoga mat 3 weeks ago and apart from a few days off while away earlier this week, I have achieved daily yoga 🧘‍♀️ I also this morning had my first run since the very end of last October 🙈 knowing my bodies propensity to injury I have restarted back at the beginning of c25k, but thoroughly enjoyed it. At the moment my mindset and body are willing so hoping life can keep some of the curveballs away for a while! Hope you are well and enjoying your break xx

YES!!! Huge well done you! A run!Perfect, and I like so many of us here in the corner, will heartily recommend the repeating of C25K.

No pressure, you know what is coming AND you know you can do it. Take your time and if you miss weeks it really does not matter. You have enough core strength work going on with the family daily chores! Your daily yoga too is really going to help, also.

It took me from December 17th 2020 until April 6th 2021 to complete the programme and re graduate!

Hoping things are settling for you, x, and that the family are all recovering from their Ailments. Keep us posted please and, as very, slow and steady x

What a great husband... and well done you for taking the hint and going for that run. Week i , Mark 2, ticked off.

Just take it steady, get the runs in when you are able and the yoga is going to be helpful too, it you can fit it in.

If you cannot manage everything, then just ease back and take a little time to just do a few simple stretches, etc.

Hoping that the better weather ! keeps some of the pesky germs away, ( which we have lost resistance to, with all the mask wearing!)

Slow and steady... it's happening. x

Morning Oldfloss, what a lovely view from the corner! Hope you are well. I am just over a month on from completing. I've been running 3 x week ever since. The first 4 runs were outside and I was briefly sworn never to return to the treadmill. Then the knees began to niggle and I think I had got a bit over excited and was going too fast. So now it is a mix, generally two on the treadmill during the week and an outside run at the weekend for a bit longer.Every time I run I am amazed by the end that I have managed it! I have pushed distance up to 6k but will be mainly focused on improving 5k time for a bit. Have RFL in Penzance next week, really excited!

Oldfloss profile image

Just super to see you here and great to know you are out there and getting the runs in:) Mixing things up is definitely a great way to move on and keep everything going!

A short run, a middle distance 5K and then, the lovely long relaxed, just see where you get to, run!

Those longer runs, weirdly are the ones that build everything up and suddenly, almost without us being aware of it, distance and sometimes, ( often), increased speed) follow.

Enjoy your RFL in Penzance, and very well done you. Maybe pop in next week and let us know how it went:) x

Hello! New here! Have done couch to 5k numerous times but first time starting it to enjoy it rather than to lose weight!! Have been learning the intuitive eating principles and been trying to figure out my joyful movement….I have gone back to tap after 10+ years off but wanted something to get my heart pumping. I used to have running tied in with previous weight loss attempts so I was worried it would tie back in with that but it ticks all the boxes for me for the enjoyment side of things as it’s alone and in nature!

I’ve just completed week 2 run 1 👏 and by upping my stretching before and after I’m getting less niggles!

Sorry I ramble haha! Nice to meet everyone!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toHanRuns

Ramble ?

Ha ha! I have to say this is NOT a ramble...now I ramble ! Ask any of my friends on here :)

Welcome! So good to have you here with us. You obviously know that this is not a weight loss programme and although you may not lose weight, you may equally lose some!

Linked with a healthy eating regime it is, a win-win situation:)

But for so, so many of us it is all about enjoyment...pure enjoyment, in running, being in the great outdoors and experiencing every single sensation, in every moment... ( good and bad)!

I am always banging on about it, and about, also, the benefits of slow and steady. That way you get to soak it all in.

It will be good if you post your run reports, that way folk can join you on your runs... also pop in here as and when you get the chance... so much support and motivational ideas for all of us at whatever level.

Huge well done to you.
