I have been procrastinating for a while, as I am an oldster (67) and obese and the idea of running for more than 30 seconds seems impossible. Nevertheless I tried it today and, while I walked more than I jogged I did it! My aching knees attest to that fact. I dread doing it again, but I'm hoping it gets easier (eventually). Is it possible to teach an old dog new tricks?

Welcome to the forum and the program! And well done for starting , that's the hardest bit done 😁
Have you read the program guide ?

It will help you succeed !
Take all the runs slowly, you may have one or two aches as you start this but make sure you do the warm up walk and the after run stretches mentioned in the guide and keep well hydrated ! 👍
Yes!!! Absolutely! Persevere, take it slow, you will surprise yourself. The most important thing is just to get out there. For the obesity, google "tim feriss slow carb diet".
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.
In the guide you will find mention of an 83 year old graduate.............age is a number, not an insurmountable barrier and there are plenty of regulars here who are much older than you.
Also in the guide you will find advice on minimising impact........... follow it all...........those carrying extra weight are inevitably more susceptible to impact stresses on joints, so stay slow.
If you want to do this then you will and it is a hugely empowering process but you are unlikely to persist if you dread the idea. Shift that mindset to a positive one. This FAQ Post about mental approach may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Relax and enjoy your journey.
Old who is old age is a number you got of the couch and you did it. My knees groaned for a couple of weeks but strengthening exercise and a bit of massage oil did the trick. Keep going you are amazing
Oh our knees as we get older, I have made specially for me orthotic insoles that at 62 suddenly straightened my feet and took away knee pain, Willow won’t get any but as soon as his very good trainers start to wear out he gets intense pain within the first minute of a run and we buy more, it might be you need well cushioned supportive shoes especially if you are overweight, might be worth (after you’ve read the links above ) getting some insoles to give you more support, there are a lot of reasonably priced ones that help. my friend uses some and they’ve made a difference. Otherwise drink loads of water, take it slow and there is no shame in taking an extra rest day if you need, us oldies heal slower
