Week 1 run 2

First I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcomes I was given after my last post introducing myself you really all are a warm and motivational bunch.

I'm still loving the slow jogging in fact yesterday when walking the dogs I found myself beginning to slow jog again, I had to stop myself as it was my rest day, (think I must have happy feet). I'm using a treadmill at the moment and have managed to download the podcast to my phone. At some stage I want to graduate to running outdoors but I'm not to sure on running with ear phones in (if I'm honest I find it quite frightening to not have full use of my hearing when I'm outside). Can anyone recommend some sort of audio timer that I can wear so I know when to walk and when to jog. I'm not actually a technophobe but it is a steep learning curve for me at the moment, (I actually though that am mp3 player was a bit like a Walkman until someone explained the phone app).

As the title states though just completed my second run on the first week and so far so good. Thigh muscles are a little slow but the rest days work see how I feel tomorrow.

Well done for controlling your urge to run. When walking I sometimes use jawbone headphones, which means I can hear fully the noises around me but can ear the music as well. I feel much safer with those than traditional headphones. Enjoy your next run.

Well done, the hardest part is to start and week 1 makes you want to run more, there are ear phones that let you hear outside noises, called bone conductor i think but what we did was just wear one headphone so we had the app as well as could hear outside sounds

Well done on your first run, I used the app and your trainer will tell you when to run or walk. I bought a £1 pair of sports headphones that go over your ears this will do to start with and later you may want to check out the variety of wireless headsets for runners and providing that you don't have the volume up too loud you can still hear the sounds around you.

I also bought a phone-holder that wraps around my arm, you can use a "bumbag" that goes around your waist to save you from holding your phone.

When you eventually get outside I would suggest that you plan your route before hand so you are using the pathways and not crossing to many roads. Enjoy

Thank you will take your suggestions on board, I know that I have to embrace technology more.

Hi Dom52, well done you for getting going.

I am a technophobe but managed to download the app on my phone so Sarah Millican tells me when to walk and jog and talks words of encouragement. I also talk back to her for company!

I am exactly the same about being able to hear as i jog on a remote farm. No traffic to worry about and sense tells me no wrong-un is going to hang around all day on the off chance i shuffle past but i still only have one headphone in! Best of luck and keep going. x

I think I would be scared to have Sarah Millican coaching me going from her stand up routines🤣 I think I will try your method of one earphone in when I get to running outside. Like you its not so much road running I am luck (ish) to have a wood down the road from me to run the paths there very undulating but quite remote. Thank you for the advice.

Hi dom52 and firstly echo what others have said in a "well done".

SueAppleRun beat me to it as was also going to suggest one earphone 😁.There's not a constant instruction, so plenty of pauses in the narrative so you can hear what's going on around you.

We're all different and respect others opinions but I prefer to run with music as it inspires me to push on. Conversely, it actually helps me to "shut the world out" ... but that's my way of coping. I started with Sarah as my coach and was great. She won't have you in stitches like her stand up routine, she just puts a slightly more humoured spin on the instruction. I switched to Jo Whiley later in the program. One other small tip is that you may find "normal" earphones might drop out of your ears as your body heats up and pace builds later on. I bought a cheap set of runners earphones from Decathlon for £7 and work brilliantly (they've never fallen out). Maybe walk a couple of outside routes first on rest days to plan? Get a couple of variations to keep you looking at different scenery etc. Best of luck and keep going .

Not what you're looking for?
