Week 1 complete

Hi everyone. I have just completed week 1 having not done any running in about 20 years since leaving school. I just wanted to share my experience and give some advice (not that im an expert) with anyone about to embark on the C25K in the same boat as me.

W1r1 & r2 nearly killed me so i joined this forum for some hints on improving and the overriding message from other posts was to slow down. I took the advice and w1r3 was a breeze! For me, i think the big problem was the 'brisk walk' warm up and rest periods. I naturally walk fast so quickened my pace when told i needed a 'brisk walk' to warm up. I was then left with little room for manoeuvre when it came time to run and was way to quick. As an example i was covering nearly 3 miles over the 30 minutes originally. But slowing warm up walk and rest walks i got my jog down to much more manageable rate. The result was i took nearly a mile off my distance but the running became pleasant and i was able to focus on my technique, posture and breathing rather than hoping i wasnt about to have a heart attack 😀

Anyway - i hope this helps at least one other person and echo more experienced runners, SLOW DOWN AND ENJOY IT.

Well done, but it doesn't matter if your job is slower than your walk, as explained in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It's all about learning when you start something new and you have already.

Just go slow and slower again if needed and remember to drink lots of water per day and not just on run days about 2-3 litres.

C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 😊😊

Well done. I just did wk4 r2 yesterday and I can honestly say, wk1 was still the hardest. In fact wk1 r1 has been the hardest to date.

Keep it up and let us know how you get on
