Good deed for the day done ( take4)

This is Jemima. Jemima likes to jaywalk in fast moving traffic. Jemima nearly came a cropper several times ( I think she had been bumped by something before we met this morning). I kept trying to shepherd her back to the pavement and thought she’d fly away but she just kept walking- not sure if she COULD fly. I was in shorts and tee shirt so had no spare clothing I could throw over her to pick her up and I didn’t think the world was ready for me in my sports Bra!!! I rang Diana Lewis, from the Animal Ambulance, but she was busy in the middle of Exmoor and said she’d try to get someone out to the duck.

I was on my warmup walk when I saw her and I couldn’t just go away and leave her ( worried I’d see her flattened on my walk home and it was near a school so I didn’t want kids to see that either ) so I managed to shepherd her back to the pavement and then a lady came back to me and gave me a HiVis jkt that a nice BT man had lent us to try to catch her with. But she still wasn’t co-operating. Just kept flapping just out of reach. So I ended up holding the jacket out flat between me and her and sort of herding her along.

We walked to the corner with her just trotting along beside me but resisting any efforts to catch her and then a man came along with a Jack Russel terrier on a lead, which was really interested in Jemima, and she decided to reverse and start going back the way we’d come!! So then he stood to one side of her, keeping his dog back and I managed to get the jkt over her and pick her up. The man removed the dead bramble we had picked up at the same time and I carried her on down the road to the River Yeo behind Coop, where there are other ducks. The BT man caught me up in his van and walked down the rest of the way with me.

I released her and she waddled off and jumped in and swam away without a backward glance. I returned the BT mans jacket and then carried on and did my run, after letting Diana Lewis know what I’d done so she didn’t need to send anyone out.

So after all that I then carried on to do my run. I couldn’t reconnect my headphones to Bluetooth so I ran “sans music” which was strange for me and just timed myself for the run/walk intervals. Nothing eventful about the run although I was slightly faster than usual and I walked home, having missed my 10.00am online Pilates class with all the extra excitement. So I showered and dressed and had time to have a leisurely breakfast before doing the 11.15 pilates class instead.
