I will admit, I was dreading this week, but it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be! The jump from 90 secs to 3 mins was really scary, but the first 3 minute stint seemed to pass so much faster than I thought!
I decided to give this a go and give myself something to achieve during the summer break from school (I am a primary teacher).
I am encouraged by my sister who completed the C25K a couple of months ago. We live quite a distance from each other and when she came to visit a few weeks back, she encouraged me to go out and did my week 1 run 2 with me as a birthday treat (although I got her lost in the woods in the pouring rain!! Haha!! Was quite the adventure!). I took a few days off after but only because I found that the area where I live was just too hilly and I was truly struggling and felt I had bitten off more than I could chew! With some research, I plotted out what I felt was a do-able route and I’ve stuck with it since. Maybe one day soon, I’ll re-visit that horrible hill just to prove to myself how far I have come!
I invested in some decent running shoes after having a gait analysis done and I must say, they have really helped too!
My next challenge is to work out how to fit this in when I return to work!

Great job... no need to dread the runs, but a few nerves going in to a longer run can really help keep the pace. You’ll be running with your sister every visit now then!? The nasty hills seem a little flatter with experience. I avoided them for a long time, no need to rush, you’ll kick its butt when you are good and ready!
Fitting the running in gets a little trickier over the winter... where there’s a will there’s a way though. Once the plan is don not every run needs to be 30 minutes, which will help.
Well done to you. I am with you on hills but I am hanging on to the words UnfitNoMore has said about them. Like you I have figured out routes but the further we run the longer the route needs to be and flattish... I have incorporated a few small hills into my runs now... V Small 😅 At least you know what to buy your sister for Christmas ... A trail map or running gear !
Welcome to the forum MySisterMadeMeDoIt and well done for getting started. This guide is essential reading for those starting the programme or returning after a break. It includes hydration, stretching after a run and knee and leg stretching exercises all of which will help.
Huge well done you and well done, to your sister !
Hills are challenging especially at the beginning and if you have no choice, but to run up them! But, they do become easier. I use mine now as warm ups
When you head back to the new term, you just get up earlier...believe me, it is a great way to kick start your school day! It really does give you the strength and stamina which is so essential for your job !
And, although getting out as the days draw in, it can, also be challenging, it can still be amazing. Autumn mornings, painted from Nature's palette of browns, reds and golds, crisp winter mornings, with a sharp frost reflecting the lights of early risers, and the wonderful lead in to all the seasons of a new year... You will love it. x
P.S.
It still will not give you the ability to catch any small miscreant, racing round the schoolyard.. small ones always win out
