Week 7 done-advice for a busy runner

Wow I can't believe that I only have 6 runs until graduation! I've really enjoyed it so far and I'm really impressed by the results of 1 free app! I'm definitely going to recommend it to everyone I speak to now πŸ˜‚

Last nights run was a bit of an obsticle course as the tree that has been threatening to fall down everytime I run past it was actually down when I came round the corner so I kind of had to jump over it and laughed to myself that maybe I should try for hurdles after graduation. Note it wasn't a very big tree haha πŸ˜‚

Only thing that's playing on my mind is I finish maternity leave in 8 weeks and I really want to carry on running 3 times a week, however I have a very long daily commute as well as running around to pick little one up from childcare as well.

Any busy runners out there got some top tips for getting those runs in?

Do you like getting your feet wet too? There is always the 3000m steeplechase 🀣

Once you have consolidated your running post graduation, not every run needs to be a minimum of 30minutes, so you can be flexible with your runs. Most people go longer on the weekends (or other days off) and so you may only need to find space for a shorter slow run and a short tempo run. It really depends where you want to take this. There will be a way because there is a will!

Enjoy closing this plan out.

Thank you that's some great tops 😊 with a bit of luck I may have another job soon so hopefully will have more of a work life balance but until then I'll have to be savvy with my time 😊

I think the magic plan over on Bridge to 10k starts with less running than week 9 here... it could be worth having a look at for ideas.

Most people wonder how they will fit running into their busy lives, only to discover that as running goes up their priority list, there is indeed often room.

I used to occasionally run at 5:30 am before going to work and many people fit a run into their lunch break.

It might not be easy, but once the bug bites deep, you will no doubt find a way.

Yes, I agree my priorities have definitely changed 😊

I agree it is a great free app and available to most. My husband used to run a lot and he would run at lunch at work , there were usually showers in some part of the buildings he worked at or at an attached gym. If his contract was within 10 miles ( he was a Marathon man) or so he would run in. If you travel by train could you get off a couple of stops early and run the rest ? Or get a baby running buggy and run together in the early morning or evenings light permitting... Saying all that when I had a baby I could barely fit a dog walk in and I never went back to work!

Thank you! Definitely a good idea on the running buggy baby would love that as well as she loves being outside with me. 😊

Agree it's a good idea to save longer runs for non-work days and do shorter runs on days when you're working or are otherwise extra-busy.

The commute, lunch break and getting up early solutions are great if they work for you. For me, they weren't compatible with my work situation, nor various Covid-related restrictions here in France. So sometimes I only ran once or twice a week, and accepted it was the best I could do. That worked better for me than feeling I had to run three times a week or I'd failed.

I am, however, someone who never had regular run days during C25K, and who doesn't cope well with routine and repetition. The key is to find what suits you. Happy running!

Thank you 😊

The commute would be a nono for me as well as there is no public transport to my work and I have to drive 30 miles to get there, same with lunch break as there are no showers at my work sadly. I'm probably going to have to make the most of days off 😊

You're welcome katemellors 😊

Your commute sounds not dissimilar to mine: minimum 95km return drive, no public transport. Lunch breaks rarely happened, no showers at work. In any case for months it would've been illegal to run at lunchtime (I was outside the permitted radius from home) or before or after work (curfew.)

Happy experimenting to find the solutions that suit you (that running buggy sounds fun!)
