Week 2 Run 1

After several attempts that wound up unceremoniously axed due to shin splints, I am re-attempting Couch to 5k! This time paying *very* close attention to how I'm running and if my shins even feel slightly weird, I'll be resting a few extra days just to make sure.

I'm determined to get to the end of this, I used to love running as a kid and participating in races, and the idea of being able to properly run again as an adult is enticing!

Due to the extra caution, it's technically taken me three weeks to get here, but hey, so long as I get to the end, that's what matters more, right?

So, here we go again!

Welcome back and as you say it really does not matter how long it takes to get to the end. Have you had your gait tested ? As I found with walking I got shinsplints from the wrong walking boots and trying to walk too quick and too far , too soon! Good luck

It was more that I had some real issues slowing down and I tended to "bounce" quite a lot while running. I've been really trying to pay attention to my technique and speed this time!

Cheers!

Technique ! My technique is drag one leg , then the next and hope I can repeat! 🤣

Absolutely correct, there will be chunks of 30 minutes to run in whenever you get there, there will be 5km to run when you are ready, and the good people at parkrun put an event on every week just to make sure you have the opportunity to be cheered along whenever you like!

Enjoy your journey back to running.
