Since graduating I’ve had a few poor runs, I put it down to eating beforehand and hot weather. However I had another poor run a few days ago where I’d prepped diet wise a lot better, today I managed 1.5 miles before I noticed I was starting to burp a lot and quite quickly my stomach became bloated, I think this is what’s hampered me all along, some days I’m ok, others I can’t manage a mile or 2.
I do suffer from IBS but not that badly, and I do get a lot of acid reflux generally, so I’m fairly certain this has to be related, so in a way I’ve got an answer just need to go to the docs now.
Having said that, does anybody else suffer from stomach bloating/ burping during a run, is this common, is there any advice as to how I cud maybe prepare differently beforehand or what I could do during the run to alleviate it ?
Any advice gratefully accepted

Yep, I’m going to call the docs tomorrow, I’ve struggled all the way thru with what I thought was lack of stamina or breathing properly, physically I’ve been great with knees and ankles etc but just struggled some days and realised now it’s this bloating that’s affecting me and making me really uncomfortable during the run, it’s not every time but often enough to be annoying, it’s frustrating as I want to run more and know I have the stamina. Will see what the doc says
That actually sounds pretty familiar. I had something similar to the point of ending up dry heaving about 7 minutes into every run. Took me a while to figure out and finally whittled it down to a build up of lactic acid. I started making a very conscious effort to slow down at the start of the run and that was enough to stop it. For a couple of months afterwards it did occur if I pushed too hard but that’s stopped now.
Might be worth trying a much slower pace and see how you get on. Be careful running up any slopes as that’s what did it for me, even a 5 degree consistent slope requires a surprising amount of extra effort.
As a short term measure some indigestion tablets just prior to a run did help as well.
