Still plodding away

I think it's W6 but hard to tell - it's the one with 25 mins at the end. Half way through the first 10 minutes in R2, Mr Johnson tells me that "You must be feeling good now" or words to that effect. In fact I was regretting that I hadn't told my wife I loved her before I left. Obviously not going as well as can be expected. I'm tired during the warm up walk at the start. In most depleted state at the end and the idea of 25 mins ridiculous. But this morning comes and I get up at 5.30 to catch the day while its still sleeping and lo and behold it's the easiest run so far! What's happening? AND my knees no longer hurt going down stairs! Maybe everything will be all right now. Maybe it's all in the mind. Are the half marathons of my youth beckoning? Onwards! I wonder if Kipling was a runner?

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

"Do you know Kipling?"

"I don't know. I've never kippled."

I thought every runner knew and venerated the man - look it up - he won the Andean 100 mile dash in 48 and were it not for getting mixed up in the Aztec Sacrifice Society debacle in June 1950 would certainly have been considered a favourite for the Trans-Arctic Three Legged race that year. His death in 2012 from a severe stitch and gunfire took from the sport its brightest star. Au Revoir old friend,
