Having graduated at the beginning of April and just been running the same sort of route for a couple of weeks, I thought I'd try to go a bit further today. It must have been the sunshine or frost going to my head! But hey, I finally ran 5km today in 43 minutes which I am very happy about. My legs can cope with the distance, although they do of course ache a bit but it's the breathing I'm finding the hardest. I try to concentrate on doing 3 paces in and 3 paces out but on an incline go to 2 in 3 out. But it's still hard. I think it may be because as a lifelong cyclist you naturally get a bit of time off when going along the flat and even more down hill, but with running you still have to put in the effort. But still loving it despite getting up at the crack of dawn.
5km run today - yay!: Having graduated at the... - Couch to 5K
5km run today - yay!
Well done on your 5k 😁👍I would forget about the 3 in 3 out on the breathing and just run at a conversational pace 👍
You are not alone with the breathing... just do what feels most comfortable to you, it’s what I do.
A fellow cyclist! I know just what you mean about running and breathing, and when I looked at C25K some years ago I found my breathing tricky to get right - then I discovered a 'miracle' cure for all my woes. I simply stopped thinking about it and I have been fine ever since. All I did was think about something - anything else. The weather, planning a holiday [remember those?], what our son was up to at school... the trees opening their buds to face the morning sun... absolutely anything. Now, my only problem is finding what to do with my hands. The answer to that one is, I suspect, to carry something.
Good luck, and just forget about breathing and it happens.
Have a great Spring of cycling and running.

No don't carry anything!!!. I believe your hands are meant to be relaxed, and gently curled into fists, so gently that you could run, holding a crisp between your thumb and forefinger without breaking it. Perhaps try it, it would give you something to do with your hands 🤣
I'm sorry! I'm sorry!!! Hold a crisp and NOT eat it!! How VERY dare you!!!???Crisps are, and always have been, my absolutely favourite snack and asking me to be in possession of one and not to eat it is tantamount to being jolly unkind.
I jest of course, and I shall try doing something, but it is the one thing I 'struggle' with when running. Maybe I could carry a bag of crisps and treat myself with one from time to time - say, each time my left foot lands on the ground!
Have a wonderful spring and summer of running, and may the gods of running look after your legs, knees, feet etc.
