Has anyone else done the C25K and Stretch & Flex programmes at the same time? More importantly has anyone managed to adapt the F&S program so it can be done in the privacy of own home - Don't mind running along quiet roads but nobody wants to see my early squat and lunge moves in public - and nor do I want to share them 😄
Stretch and flex..... But not in public!! - Couch to 5K
Stretch and flex..... But not in public!!
Umm, I'm confused (doesn't take much!) I didn't think the two programmes were intended to be done simultaneously - I thought the idea was to do Strength and Flex on non-run days, and that it could be done at home or outside. There again, I only did C25K, so maybe I'm missing something.
I feel exactly the same. Running through my village is one thing but stretching and flexing is another. Luckily I can do this in the back field behind my garden and only the chickens can see me ( and cackle)
Love this post! I'm a recent graduate who is incorporating strength and flex with my consolidation runs, NHS 12 wk fitness plan, and I hear what you're saying regarding doing it in doors. I've already scared several small children and have had dogs bare there teeth at me as I do my impression of the living dead! If you want a bit of extra fun check out the strength and flex forum, they are trying to match (collectively) Astronaut Tim Peake's exercise time. Oh as Cmoi suggested, do the S@f on none run days. Of course you can do S@F indoors but it wouldn't be half as much fun, just don't wear any face paint!
I have tried the Strength and flex at home (felt a total pillock walking around the living-room, though!), but it's a problem finding something to hold on to in place of railings or a tree. If you have a garden then perhaps that would be a solution. Soon you'll be able to do it at the gym either. And yes, you can do both. Just do S&F on your non running days.
I've started Strength and Flex it's a programme that can be done at home, the garden or outside in the park. The difficulty for me is the pullups and I need to get a pullup bar CBDB on the S&F forum will be able to give you some advice.
I did the strength and flex programme indoors or in my garden. As drun says the main problem is finding a substitute for railings for pull ups. I just found the S&F forum which I’ve found very helpful and I am now trying some nhs fitness studio 10 minute workouts suggested on there.
Thanks for all your comments everyone. Definitely planning to do S&F on non run days (sorry if I didn't make that clear). Going to look for a field only overlooked by chickens, possibly try it once the nearby gym opens in a couple of weeks - fingers crossed, meantime I'll take a look at the S&F forum and see what alternatives people have for the railings. 😊
I’m doing Stretch and Flex at the same time as C25K. Started when I was on week 3 of C25K and it seemed to make a big difference to my breathing (I have asthma). Have gone from using my inhaler a lot during runs to hardly at all. I do S&F at home, and along with the others replying here, find it hard to find something to use for the pull ups. I use the bathroom radiator and every time I worry that I’m going to pull it off the wall!
I've only done strength and flex once inside ,due to the weather, and on that occasion I used a door frame for the pull ups. If you have someone to help, you may even be able to use a broom handle placed across a door frame. Much safer than radiator pull up's unless your other half's a plumber!
I have done it while out walking and also in my garden, on rest days, right now I am doing nightly yoga sessions from the strength & flex forum which I enjoy better
