music helps me enjoy running - week 5 - run 3

I really enjoyed this first twenty min run and realise that music makes it for me.

I have now started experimenting with different BPM (beats per minute) so that it seems more like a dance on the grass! 140 BPM is about right for me with warm up walks at about 115/120 BPM. I have included my playlist for today. I know its all very personal but it might be a jump off point for some.

Todays run was dedicated to Kathy and Steph who died this week, and Richard and Martin their husbands. Wonderful friends from EGFR lung cancer group who donated drugs, time and kept Mike and I going

Hi RoRoMama, Thanks for reading. How are your runs going?

I did W5R3 this morning. I’ve done C25K a number of times over past 5 years. I’ve always enjoyed it but not gone on to anything further and over time become so irregular that I’ve felt it best to restart. But I read this week someone’s suggestion about 2x20 minute runs and 1x30 minute run a week so I now have a plan. 🤞

Never give up eh?

Sounds a great plan. I was wondering how to proceed after finishing

There is Ju-Ju’s bridge to 10 which looks great and is popular with many. Also has its community on HealthUnlocked. I’d love to be able to do it but my left foot has a history and I don’t want to exacerbate any weakness already there. Good luck with your journey. Are you still cycling?

Also and not least so sorry to hear you have lost your husband. I do hope C25K and the community here are helping you through what must be an incredibly difficult time in your life. Sending you a virtual hug 🤗

Hey thanks for this. Yes I’m cycling - it’s a big love! Yes I’m finding this community lovely and it creates a connection with my husband who was such an amazing runner - he used to run whilst I cycled! Thank you for the hug and good vibes to your left foot

Love your playlist. I too love EDM to run to. Deff need to build a bespoke C25K playlist. Just done W5R1, so far so good. 🤞

Sash! That takes me back to a very specific time and place.

I'm finding music very important to my runs too, although I'm preferring a more relaxed tempo. I've been using BBC sounds to download Don Letts Culture Clash Radio, it's been just perfect and uplifting.

I've also been compiling a 90/180 BPM playlist, I'm thinking at some point I'll try it out to set my running cadence. It's turning out to be very eclectic.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. My dad died young from lung cancer. It was nightmarish, not something I'd wish on anyone. I hope you get through it ok.

Sash takes me back to a specific place too! Thanks for the Don Letts recommendation, I will have a listen. In the rest of my life I have a very broad taste in music and it’s a big love of mine. With running I seem to favour something with a sense of steady discipline. I wonder if that will change as I get more confident? Maybe get a bit more jazzy? !!!

Nightmarish is the word for lung cancer, and worse was the lepto-meningeal disease that came with it. I’m raging . I’m also loving him so much and that accompanies me too. Sending you masses of support for your runs.
