Diagostic scale shows muscles mass decreasing

Maybe some of you can explain me what's going on with my diagnostic values.

Since January I see that the weight, fat and BMI are increasing while water and muscle mass are decreasing. I had these 1 - 2 kilos more some times before but never combined with these values for muscle mass and fat for this weight.

Due to the cold and snowy winter weather I couldnt' run regularly for about 3 weeks. It was 2 weeks without a run but then I did a cardio training at home for the running days. And there was one week where I could go out only once. Since almost 3 weeks do my 3 runs per week but the values didn't change. :(

I never paused my training only with bodyweight (Mark Lauren - YAYOG ) 3 times a week. So there was no change.

I also didn't changed my nutrition and I always drink 2 liters of water every day.

I can't explain myself what's going on. But it's always disappointing when I do my weekly weighing after the long run on Saturday. :(

What are you eating?

It could just be a bit of natural variance (or measurement error) and might mean nothing at all, but if you have been on a low-fat, calorie-controlled diet for some time (years), the most likely explanation is that your metabolism is starting to fail and is starting to pack on fat mass in a last-ditch attempt to maintain blood sugar.

I eat most of the time vegeterian food and on average once in a week meat. I wasn't on a diet but my nutrition contains not much fat over many years. So maybe my metabolism would really need more. 🤔

I think I need to be patient and have a look at this. And maybe change the batteries of the scale?!😉 I do this weighing always on Saturdays after the long run and this over almost 2 years. Therefore I thought/think that this could be a trend which looks not good to me.

yup, no need to panic, it could be nothing important.

OTOH it would be a good idea for your general health to get a bit more fat into your diet and dial back on the carbs. If you're vegetarian, aim to get lots of actual veg on your plate and find creative ways to work in some fat-calories (eg., butter, cream, eggs, olive oil, coconut oil ... ). If you catch this sort of thing early enough (as you have) it's easy to reverse.

I have no personal experience of diagnostic scales and was intrigued by your question.

This article healthline.com/health/body-... does mention that they only provide rough estimates and that they may not be appropriate if doing frequent endurance and resistance training.

As with any metrics involving your body, it is only trends over a period of time that are significant, probably measured in months rather than weeks.

Many thanks for the link to the article. I will have a look at it right now. 😀 Maybe you are right and weekly is not the right period of time to look at these values.

What are diagnostic scales and where do you get these done?

I got some in Lidl some months ago. They have an app that can sync via Bluetooth, which requires an online account setting up, though I don't use it and use the less intrusive openScale app instead.

Lidl are usually good value - I didn’t know there was such a thing you could buy for home use. Sounds interesting 😊

Your BMI is increasing, what do you consider as your BMI?You are saying your fat and BMI, im puzzled.
