Hi lovely runners...hope you’re all doing well??

I have been hammering away for the last few runs trying my hardest to make my runs feel easy...but they haven’t...who even said running is easy?? The weather has taken its toll on my asthmatic lungs and I have just generally not enjoyed it as much as I used to..I was getting to the point where I was thinking of hanging up my trainers if I’m honest...well, the thought did cross my mind...but me giving up running would be like the Pope stopping praying, it wouldn’t last long I know it...so, last night I put my big girl pants on and pulled them right up..and fastened them at the top with the tightest belt I could find...infact I wrapped it round twice for good measure...

I’d dressed in my running clobber when I got up first thing so that, when opportunity arose, I was ready...& I made sure that I was on top of my ventilators...prevention is key here...

Darkness fell, every one was fed so I seized the opportunity...gave my big girl pants one last hitch up..& off I went...aiming for maybe a 3k...

When I got out there it was drizzling...woo hoo, my fav conditions...drizzle & a cold (but not icy) wind...not a speck of ice left lurking in any corners anywhere...just the ticket....

Listening to true crime podcasts about women being murdered might not be the best idea if you’re a bit jumpy like me coz a couple of times when my shadow caught me up my heart skipped a beat 🤣🤣

When I reached my loosely aimed for 3k I just needed to know what happened to the family of the murdered woman in the podcast so I just carried on...I was aware of my footsteps...they felt slightly heavy but I had found my rhythm and my breathing was, for the first time for yonks, calm...the whole time and I mean the whole time!!! I decided to aim for 5k...my last run was 5k and I was annoyingly 3 secs off beating my PB, if I’d have known that I’d have flicked the turbo boost switch...but, for a change, I wasn’t clock watching 🤨... I had a couple of walk breaks (well fast marching) on that run too but last nights was consistent running...but yet it was 2 minutes slower!??!! 🤪 All I can put that madness down to is that last nights run had a couple of small hills whereas the other one was mostly downhill!!!

There’s nothing like ‘one of them’ runs...it’s restored my faith...in myself...

Thank goodness 😅

So if you’re having a wobble, find your big pants and tighten them extra tight...no pressure...be kind to yourself and don’t aim too high

Love MC xx

Hammering away...........3 seconds off beating your PB............and you find it hard Mummycav ............not surprising really.

I know...I should know better...when my love affair with running starts handing me flowers from the garage instead of from the florist I should learn to back off, slow down and stop trying too hard...😩 x

You made me laugh all the way reading it 🤣 well done for getting your mojo back! I have not graduated yet and finding it harder with each run, but on the other hand I am getting PR with each run. So I suppose nothing comes easy.

Oh yes...this mojo of mine keeps trying to escape my clutches, don’t know where it’s thinking of going but it must be on one of them extending dog leads coz it gets so far and comes back with some flowers and it’s tail between it’s legs

Saturday, i’m not working this weekend so I run Saturday and if it’s not too far i might go out and run sunday as well, I lol on the couch making these wonderful plans of a long slow easy run....then go out there and flollop along wondering why carrying an extra stone is such hard work, works stressful, I’m tired, but a long easy run makes me feel wonderfully as if I could do anythingSo would you be able to run saturday?

Mummycav profile image

Well done MC I’ve noticed a lot of us on here have been struggling for one reason or another. It’s great to hear you put your big girl pants on, and got out there, but it sounds as though you hoisted them up that many times you might have given yourself a wedgie ! 😂 maybe the choice of podcast wasn’t the best for running in the darkness, I’d imagine that also helped you with your speed 👀

I think everyone’s getting to the end of their tether with lockdown..we all know it’s for the best but we’re getting desperate for things to go back to some kind of normal...but there’s light at the end of the tunnel...thank goodness...I’m keeping my big girl pants out..they’re not getting pushed to the back of my running drawer anymore...& yes, I pulled them up a bit too far, made my eyes water 🤣🤣

The podcast was dead interesting but I’m the kid of person who never played hide and seek I’m too jumpy for that!!! 🤪

Oh Mummycav, what a great post, it was just what I needed to hear 😊. My last few runs haven’t felt easy either, and have even questioned myself a bit. BUT. I have some big pants lurking at the back of my wardrobe, so it’s time to drag them out. Maybe also go down the murder mystery route too. So thank you, and I’m so pleased your big pants have restored your faith in yourself. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply toFrenc

But you’ve kept going out Frenc , that’s because you know how a good run feels and are searching for that feeling every run...& when it happens it’s the best!!! I’m glad my post has helped you...dig them pants out and keep them next to your trainers!! I’d def recommend a bit of true crime on a run because you have to listen to the end and it keeps you on your toes!!

Thank you Hidden ..have you been for your run today yet?? x

in reply toMummycav

I ran on Wednesday in the wind and the rain, so strictly speaking I should really head out again today, but it is bucketing down and really windy again 🌧️🌬️ 🙄 ...... Tomorrow however it is going to be dry and 14 degrees ☀️😆......

........ so guess which day I am running?

I have been good today though and have completed my yoga 🧘🏼‍♀️😇

Wow! Have taken a break from running due to some health (& mojo!) issues.... & although I'd even stopped reading these posts, something drew me to read yours this morning... Will have to start slowly again but, yes, I will pull up those big girl pants... thank you Mummycav xxx

Thanks for this post Mummycav .As I started my second time on the IC as of Saturday, this post is good to read.

I’m not giving up on running either but sometimes the thought has come to mind when I keep stopping and starting due to illness as well as injury.

I just have one question which podcast were you listening to?

I’m a fellow true crime podcast fan too. Do you think it’s a Yorkshire lass thing? 😉😂

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply toIndielass00

Oh sorry to hear you’ve been on the IC Indielass00 ...what’s been the problem?? I’m sure the temptation to call it a draw but I know how much you like your running..don’t forget I was doing CC last month and have kept my beady eye on proceedings 😉 ...I’ve listened to a few different podcasts but the one I like is true crime investigators...and UK true crime every Tuesday...might be a Yorkshire lass thing?! Maybe we’re a bit nosey?! Lol x

Indielass00 profile image
Indielass00Graduate in reply toMummycav

Thanks Mummycav. Good to know you are keeping an eye on us! 😀

Nosey?! Surely not ! 🙀😂😂 Intrigued?! Definitely! 🕵🏻 😀

Never listened to those TC pods, will give them a try. I’ve listened to ones mostly from Australia and America.

As for injury, it’s a recurring one. A niggle low down on the inside of my right calf in just one small area, that can become painful. Also right hip has been hurting, so stopped running immediately. It hurts when I walk too sometimes.

Need to see a physio to find out what’s going on. Last time I had two weeks or more off running and it went. But then gradually came back.

Just walking for now and then will do some Pilates and Yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️ x
