Hi all, i hope you’re all ok and survived the windy weather, sleet or snow of January?

Now I know we all make resolutions and promises to ourselves in the new year and hopefully we stick to them, never mind if you didn’t, rules are there to be broken sometimes!! As some of you may remember, my last post was about a month ago when i said I had signed up for RED January?? Well, I have survived it! When I first signed up for it I was a bit apprehensive as running every day isn’t something to be taken lightly, you have to be good, eating and drinking the right things to fuel your run the following day but I stuck to that too, I had a couple of glasses of wine a couple of times but thankfully they didn’t affect my performance! From the first run I thought to myself that I would definitely have to stick to shortish runs so to avoid injury or fatigue, that was my plan, I would just cover 3k with the occasional 5k thrown in and that’s exactly what i’ve done...I’ve done some intervals, I’ve done full on runs, I’ve run uphill, I’ve run downhill, I’ve run in parks, i’ve run along the main roads, the canal you name it, i’ve run it because you have to mix up your running otherwise it will get monotonous, I’m sure the people in my town are going to notice that i’m not running every day, there i was in my pink hi-viz, every day, pounding the pavements ....I’m going to miss running everyday, I’ve enjoyed the challenge and have proved to myself that anything is possible if you put your mind to it...running is such a big part of my life...I don’t run massive distances, infact I’m a bit worried that I might not manage a 10k ever again because it’s been so long but I will give it a dam good go!! Whatever you are trying to achieve with your running, all i can tell you is never give up, you are a runner and you can build on what you’ve done so far...

When i did my last run last night I wanted to finish with a 5k, I actually did Week 9 run 3 and I took Mr Smooth with me. When my watch vibrated for the 5th time I stopped, walked for a few minutes to my house, sat on the front steps and smiled to myself as the icy wind cooled me down...I’ve done it, me...I’ve run everyday, just like I said i would...who’d have thought it?? I really am a runner and even after almost 3 years of running it’s times like this that cement it for me..It doesn’t matter how far you run, what matters is that you get out there, your determination and inner strength takes over and you just keep going. What a fantastic start to the year I’ve had...you see, when you start this wonderful thing we call running you never know where it will take you or what surprises lay in store for you as you travel along your journey...keep on keeping on everyone, you’re all doing brilliantly xxx

Fantastic effort and congratulations on RED January and there is me worrying about running on two days in succession. Give it a few days and return to the usual.

Thank you Papillon17 , it has taken some doing I can tell you, Thursdays run was just completely rubbish as the wind was blowing my sideways, taking my breathe away and I just could not get into a rhythm at all so i ended up sulking and giving up after about 2k, it was impossible! So that’s why I decided to end on a high at 5k last night and it worked coz I felt great. Just a couple of days off for me if I can resist not running tomorrow (!) ...maybe one of the kids might hide my trainers!!! 🤣

If your lucky 😂. Certainly would rest a day or two.

Wow that sounds fabulous 😊

Well done, you deserve a couple more glasses of wine 🍷 tonight - I might even join you - cheers 🥂

Have you kept a record of how far you have run in total for the month?

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply toJoanney69

Ooo, I will do a virtual clink of glasses with you Joanney69 !!! Yes, i have run 94km....with all of my runs I’ve walked to warm up which totals 33kms too so my legs have been very busy!!

Wow that really is impressive 😮 I had to convert it to miles, I still work in old money 😂

Definitely goes to show, if you challenge yourself you are capable of more than you think 🤔

I'm certainly finding that with c25k 🏃 ☺

Looking forward to the glass of wine 🍷 🥂

😂...hey, we might end up going back to imperial now eh Joanney69 ?!! Sometimes we have to push ourselves that little bit more but the feeling afterwards is well worth it...when i sat on my front steps last night i was quite overwhelmed x

Hadn't thought of that! I use pounds and ounces but I understand grams, but haven't quite grasped kms 😁

I can imagine that feeling last night, it's amazing, you should be very proud 😊 👌 🥉

Running every day is an amazing achievement Mummycav (and not something that novice runners should try). Very Well Done to you. 🏃‍♀️👏🏻👏🏻

Someone told me that pink is the best colour for being seen in the dark so a good choice for your running jacket.

I hope you’ve had a nice day off today.

Thanks Dexy5 ...It just so happens that pink is my favourite colour too!! If you look closely at the photo you can see my little disco light in my hair too, it’s a little torch that i wrap around my pony tail!! I have had a nice day off so far but i would normally be getting ready to run now so it feels strange 😉

How about a glass of wine instead 🍷. I’ll join you with a g&t.

Great job Mummycav! That is a fantastic feat that many (myself included) wouldn’t be able to achieve, not with my darn work schedule messing with my running 🤨. You should be super proud of yourself 🤩

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply toSaskAlliecat

i am sure you would be able to do it SaskAlliecat ...you have amazing runs all the time, I love reading your reports!! I’m lucky that work doesn’t come into the equation, I suppose if you don’t work 9-5 it can be tricky...actually, tricky whatever your hours, it must be hard to find the motivation after being at work x

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate in reply toMummycav

It definitely adds a challenge after a long day at work to find the motivation to get out but my biggest challenge is being on call and working all sorts of unpredictable hours. It puts a wrench in my running but if I was motivated enough, I’m sure I could do it. Someday, I will do a RED challenge though!

👏👏👏 Well done dearest Mummycav! I knew you could do it. The strength and dedication needed to do this is testament to what a fantastic runner you are, and I must say, your joy for running shines through. Well done and a big hug from me.

PS it has been AGES since I ran 10k, too. Am thinking of doing ju-ju’s magic 10km plan...a new goal to consider? 😘
