So firstly and so very important, if you've a niggle or a strain, or something that's hurting that's only going to be antagonized by a run..... DON'T RUN !!! REST IT AND REPAIR!!!
Last outing 02/12/20 ..... 15 days of stretching and gawwwd knows how many heel raises and calf exercises but it's got to be done. Ironically I don't think it was caused by my running, but I guess fatigue may be a factor... And in the grand scheme of things I'm still a newbie and every day is a learning day.
Today the calf felt pretty much like normal, perhaps a tad tender but it doesn't like being rollered anyway, but after 2 weeks and a lot of strength and flex exercises I threw in the trainers and phew it felt
A. Good to be back Running π
B. No niggles πππ
Those days without a run are tough, but remember listen to your body, you look after it and it'll serve you well π.
Today wasn't piccie snapping run I'm scenic wales it rained large π&πΆ. Every thing was wet the puddles had puddles but it didn't matter....
I ran and it felt brilliant, although it's December there's a definite and notable absence of snow it's all over yonder with SaskAlliecat βοΈββ·οΈ.....
Happy healthy Xmas Running you lot keep on going ππͺ
Great run Imc and great advice, of course! Ooh, thatβs a long time not to run. I dropped a run this week as I think I needed a rest. Very sensible of me.
Good that your calf seems ok now after all the TLC ! ππ
Good advice, as ever. I've also been applying caution. Yesterday's run was touch and go with shin tightness. Thankfully it was only a manifestation of the Toxic Ten and wore off after a couple of minutes of running.
Very sensible advice and well done on your return to running. Iβve been under the weather this week and have only been out once. I might try and get out tomorrow.
As much as I'd missed my being able to run, I was sooooo apprehensive of my calf and kinda waiting for that ouch π¬ thankfully it never showed ππ
Bet your glad to be back, i've only been running now, for 15 weeks, not missed a run, 3 a week, would be hard to have to sit out, with an injury, i guess it might happen, i've probably been lucky!!!
That's good progress Peter44 I used the 3 a week schedule Monday Wednesday Friday weekends off worked a treat ππ......... Then after many brilliant runs across almost a year I was derailed by π€«π a scotch egg of all things ( a long story)
Twas the day after my last HM I'd popped to my local butchers on the way to work, for work snacks (the cursed scotch egg) so in a nutshell, I'm kinda a midfoot slightly heel striking runner, but whilst crossing the road, Mr muppet, zoomed out of the junction, and lil ol me had to get out of the way sharpish π¨ I literally put my foot down to run for safety, and a teeny but chuffin painful stab to the right calf ouch.........
It looks like there was a wee bit of rain for you there π. Sorry to here you've been runfree for so long but here's hoping you're back at it, niggle-free! It is just so hard sometimes to jot run, isn't it?
I am just about to run after 11 days after knee pain stopped me, I hope I have given it long enough I never in a million years thought I would miss something like running.
I developed a knee niggle after my 10k 3 weeks ago. I have taken loads of rest days, a couple of slow 3ks, then slow 4ks, tomorrow hopefully a 5k as my knee feels better. Difficult to stop though isn't it?
Oh ouchy Maz1103 knees they take so much hammer without even going near running, it's a hinge, and when you think how often we open and close a door everyday, that's the sort of workload we put our knees through. Often overlooked is our water intake and general hydration levels, that's definitely going to help that niggle IannodaTruffe has a post all about water our bodies etc it's mind-blowing and so informative..... Get reading and then pop over and check out those exercises via CBDB on the strength and flex forum. Don't risk that next big run maz if you've a worry it's going to flare up ππ
