Well, that wasn't fun at all. Got out, got it done. 6km / 43mins / 7.12km average pace. Set out already regretting only wearing 2 thin layers but soon warmed up. New headband had my head in a vice like grip, I was hoping it would loosen off a bit as I ran (it didn't).. Thought I was going to expire as I went into 2km, just couldn't get my breath and my energy levels felt depleted. Even the 90's dance playlist I'd chosen hit a bum note with me today (note to self: 12" remastered version of Fat Boy Slim 'Rocker Fella Skank' is not for my running playlist) π£ π±
Must. Not. Stop.
Hit my stride a bit by 4km but by then, I was scaling this run back in my head to a 5km as my heart pounded in my chest and even above the music in my ears, I could've given Thomas the Tank Engine a run for his money with the volume of puff coming out of me. Great for scattering dawdling walkers though π πBy 5km, I felt better and pushed on with the proviso I would stop at any point if too much. Of course, I know what I'm like - I'd set this run as a 6km and I was going to make it to 6km so I powered on, picking my way over some pretty sharp stones and small rocks on the small uphill path up from the canal (I was cursing by this point, I'd misjudged my return run). So, 6km buzzed on my Garmin and it was done and a huge sense of relief!
Chalking that one up to experience. I really ought to take my own advice and prepare better. Last night I had a bad night's sleep, headache, took painkillers, dehydrated... I also lazed around this morning and went out later than I usually do and after breakfast...blabla. Not optimum conditions for me!
So, I had been thinking of officially moving over to Bridge to 10k but after that performance, I'm not sure I'm quite ready for it yet π
