I’ve done about 6 consolidation runs so far but Tuesdays was my worst ever! It didn’t feel right from the start - breathing was bad, no energy in the legs. I stopped at 3k. I’ve managed to resist the temptation to stop until now and I’m furious with myself. Has anyone else experienced this?
Worst run so far 😩: I’ve done about... - Couch to 5K
Worst run so far 😩
You don't need to be furious with yourself Leithpi, all runners have bad runs from time to time, perhaps you ran too fast or were not hydrated with not drinking enough water, these bad runs do happen even to elite athletes, by the way, if that was your 7th consolidation run after graduating from C25K, I notice the word Graduate is not next to your username, to get that go to the December graduate post and tell the administrators that you have completed C25K
Everyone has bad runs. Trying to work out if you did something different may help but it could be just one of them days.
Please don't beat yourself up. Waste of effort! Just think that the next one will be better. Every run is better than no run. Consolidation is all about well consolidating, learning, getting stronger, building stamina, more learning. Enjoy the journey, and remember it's not a race 😊
Hi there...yes I experienced my worst CR yesterday. Just felt awful from start to finish. Please don't beat yourself up....it's not a crime to have a bad run, or not feel able to finish a run. There are no running police!!! Well...only ourselves. It's a BAD run...that's all it is. I had a really poor sleep the night before, so putting it down to this. May not have hydrated enough??? Just got to look after ourselves and learn from this😘.
I’ve had some tough consolidation runs too Leithpi!! Don’t beat yourself up too much, we all have our off days. So many different factors contribute to a good run so it can be hard to work out what was off balance - sometimes it’s just mood, lack of hydration or stress.
Mixing my runs up a bit helped me: try a new route, change up the duration/pace a little or change what you’re listening to (podcasts, music or nothing at all)!
Don’t give up and I hope your next run is a better one 🤞🏼✨🏃🏼♀️
Of course! We all have them.
On Monday I had the choice of doing the distance I'd planned to do, or gently returning home having done about half of it. I chose the sensible option to avoid injury, and have been resting the last few days.
No run is wasted.
Lots of wise words already here, which I agree with. Just responding to express some solidarity and support.✊💪🏼
Hope the next one goes well.
We all have..I use the Nike Run Club app for consolidation runs, I find it helps to have Coach Bennett’s words of wisdom in addition to my playlist as I jog along. Lots of choice of runs of various times and distance , it’s free too 👍
Thank you all for your help. I went out yesterday (in the pouring rain), slowed my pace down and tried out some new shoes (Asics Roadblast). Felt more comfortable than I have in ages and did 5.7km. 😀
I agree with the advice you’ve already been given. I have 100% had runs that were shockers - they felt difficult and had no enjoyment factor at all - I put them squarely in my Run Bin and try, after a bit of self indulgent musing, to forget about them. Think of it this way, even on what you call your worst run you still did 3k. That’s not a failure by any means. Dust yourself down and have another go in a day or so 😉
