Back at it after a break

Last run was 12th November. Hadn’t really planned on taking a break but during this run (NRC run) I was asked why? Why this particular run, why that specific duration and why that day. I didn’t feel my answer was good enough - because I should. I should be running 3 times a week for 30 mins to consolidate!.

I haven’t felt any motivation to run since and coupled with the severe shin splints I’ve been experiencing every run, I decided I just wouldn’t run. Easy.

Saw a video posted on here about shin splints, where they were caused by a lack of flight phase whilst ‘running’. It made me consider whether this could be my problem.

So off i went today to test my hypothesis. I managed a much faster pace than usual for 10 minutes and no shin splints!

My resolution is to now revisit the C25k program to develop my pace - running only 2x a week and repeating as necessary. Ideally I’d like to work on achieving an average pace of around 8’30 - 9mins per km.

Well done on getting back out there. Shin splints are no fun. Your plan sounds good. Take it easy on yourself. In my, very limited, experience when I stopped worrying about how fast/far I was going I improved without even trying.

Interesting about the flight phase. I'm more "glider" stride when jogging and "gazelle" type stride when sprinting.

I think also the glute muscle group is a factor, too.
