Back to running after 1 week break

So I’m due to run week 7 run 3, but have had to take a week off due to plantar fasciitis and coming down with a stinking cold. I’m not sure whether I should just ‘go for it’ and try my scheduled run, or if I should go back and repeat any previous weeks runs first? How long does it take to ‘lose your progress’ fitness wise? Anyone else had to do this? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you

I’ve had a couple of gaps of a week between runs and found it fine to just pick up with the one I was supposed to do next. You could decide to do your next run but extra slowly or give yourself permission to stop if you are struggling. I’m not sure there’s a strict rule about what’s best. I’d start and listen to your body.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi, thanks for your response. Good to know you were able to carry on as you were. I think that’s a good idea… try and see if I maybe go extra slow, if I can manage it. 😊

Hi KayJayRose , you won't have lost any significant fitness with a week off. As MissUnderstanding says, listen to your body: just be sure you're fully recovered all around, then give w7r3 a go. You don't need to push yourself, you can go a bit slower if you need. Don't forget, you've already completed three runs of this duration, you can do this!

Hi, thanks for your response. That’s good to know. I wasn’t sure how quickly fitness drops off - and this is the first time I’ve done the couch to 5k process. I think you’re right. I’ll make sure I’m 100% better and then just give it a go. 😊

As already advised , you won't loose much fitness in a week !I had 18 days off after week 8 run 1 then carried on with week 8 run 2 .

Just take your time

Go for it and go steady. Hydrate and fuel so you always give yourself the best chance. You've got this in you!
