Got out after not running for a few days, did a 7 mile hike yesterday too but this was my first run in a bit. Had to go steady as my calf still didn't feel 100%. Didn't feel great, I feel heavy and slow. Managed to run the full 40 target so pleased with that but overall not a great run.

Morning Jericho-You did good distance with your calf not feeling 100%-I did my run yesterday-5.5k in 40 mins- but then I could feel my ankles start to ache and it was time to stop. We’re doing good though considering we could just about run for a minute 3 months ago! Enjoy your day 🙂
Thanks Bambi, yes we have done very well! We all seem to be picking up niggling injuries lately though 🤦🏼♂️ I haven't seen many posts from the guys and wondering if everyone's hurt? Maybe just not posting? I try to post each time just so I have a record of what I've done to look back on.
Have people moved over to bridge to 10k forum or still here? Not seeing the usual names around much.
Hope you have a great Sunday 👍🏻
I’ve been posting 2 runs together as I don’t want to bore everyone with my dull recounts of the same thing! I think some people are giving themselves a few extra days to rest up. I’m at a point where I’m adding a few minutes on the weekend runs- going to 5.5k but I’m aware that if I push my luck, something will begin to ache. As soon as I feel something beginning to feel different, I stop. I think I need more time consolidating the 30 mins at the moment before pushing towards another big challenge. When I’ve had a few more runs at 30 I’ll probably go for adding some distance rather than speeding up-as I’m not a fast runner and I need to work on getting my heart rate down!
Hi Jericho, well done for CR11. I did 12 weeks of consolidation ( nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/1... )
Just wanted to note that I also have moved over to the Bridge forum, although I’m still hovering on C25k.
But I found that whilst the C25k got me running, the Bridge gave me more motivation to KEEP on running. And most posts are aimed at runners who have made running part of their lives (whilst C25k is all about getting there, with C25k week postings leading the feeds).
So I would suggest it’s still great to be members of both, but once I was on my consolidation phase (posting on C25k), I was already hovering on the Bridge to understand how to keep running.
Hope this might be useful for anyone finding it a challenge to keep on running.
Another great forum to be a member of is the Strength and Flex Forum, as cross training will become more important when moving beyond C25k.
Well done! And keep on keeping on!
Hi Jericho. I’m moved to post because of your comments about not posting. I’m finding it difficult getting time to run and when I do I’m failing to run the course so I’m not posting till I can complete a run none stop, I’m wondering if the the combination of cold, wet and wind is putting people off. Good to see both you and Bambi still keeping your ends up. 👍
Good to see your still getting out there! I feel like I'm going a little bit back over with it at min, somehow managed to put weight on despite all the exercise I'm doing 🤦🏼♂️ and it's making me feel heavy and sluggish. Protecting the calf a little too so can't run at usual pace. I should probably have a week of rest but think il struggle to get back out if i start having time off.
Well done Jericho 👍 glad to see you managed to get back out there this morning and you covered a good distance (especially after the hike) 💪👏I’m still resting niggles since my last run on Tuesday 😩 I really hope 🤞 I’ll be back out there on Tuesday but I’m not going to rush it - I’ll make sure I keep the gang updated 👍
Now make sure you rest that calf or coach Dyre will ‘ave you!!
I get weirded out completely every time I see Stewart’s park on this forum 🤣
It's pretty weird at 6am when i run there 🤣 so dark!🤣🤣
Yes, it's strange seeing a local landmark mentioned.
I know of only one other on this forum who I can definitely say is within 5 miles as the crow (or rook) flies from me in North Manchester.
Maybe when restrictions are eventually lifted, we can arrange to say hello in person to runners in our vicinity at organised Parkruns, etc.
Morning Jericho 😀 Well done on getting out there, 40mins is not at all shabby and a fair pace I'd say given you were on a long hike yesterday!! I wonder if overall you've maybe been doing too much - the runs and the hikes etc - and this has caused your calf to over-extend and without much time to let it heal, it's started to protest?
I know myself, if I've had a long walk or PT session the day before a run, I feel like I set out with half a tank and by the time I'm c.4km into the run, I'm dangerously close to empty and it's after these runs, I've noticed my niggles (strained left side of groin/top of thigh, right knee niggle, lower back..jeesh, cracking up!!!) I guess when we're tired, our form goes out the window but with this newfound runner's determination, we press on to keep going and get the run done but our bodies are like "nahhh"...
During my 2 weeks of niggles recently, I dropped down to two runs a week and worked more on stretching every day. I drank so much water I felt like a reservoir, didn't drink any wine either and got a lot of sleep. Only gentle walks as exercise in between runs and nothing more than 20mins. I hated it but it seems to have been what I needed.
Hope you can rest up the calf and get some ice packs on it, a bit of gentle stretching and some deep heat balm could help too. You'll be back out there bounding along soon and back to loving your runs!
I'll put my hand up as another one with something to nurse! Managed to hurt my knee a bit this week. Glad in a way to know it's not just me, although would be even more glad if we were all 100% of course. I'm not sure exactly what to do about it, maybe I'll rest for a few days and then cut back to 2 shorter runs each week a bit like Runforurlife?
