Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

My advice is trust the program. At times I thought I couldn't do it, but I always surprised myself!

Stick to the program don’t beat yourself up if you struggle on a run you’ll enjoy it good luck

Go slowly... Stretch after... Drink plenty of water. But most of all believe in yourself and the programme because it works. I am still amazed that I can run. The sense of achievement is worth all the effort. Good luck x

I think this was where I went wrong last time. I tried doing too much, not resting and not stretching and ended up with sore knees.

I think a few muscle aches and pains are normal to start with but I suppose the secret is to let your body recover in between.

I didn't do that. But I'm now motivated to try again. Thanks for your help.

Some people find dynamic stretches (not static stretches) before going out useful.Google the difference.

Static stretches are for after the run.

It's hard to work out when your body is saying stop or when it is those evil mind gremlins trying to get you to stop. Rule of thumb is, it's usually the mind gremlins!

The programme is great.

Just go slowly and then go slower.

I'll check it out. Thanks!

Go slow, let the tortoise pass you and have a chat with a snail. Going slow will help you continue. While going too fast will demotivate. Have fun!
