Week 8 - Run 3

Week 8 is done! This run started out the same as always but at about 20 minutes in was feeling quite good so when it came time to stop at 28 minutes I was like, no Jo, I’m NOT stopping, whatcha gonna do about, and ran for the 5 minute walk period, so 33 minutes total. I even broke out of my usual 5-minute back and forth up and down the private road and out on the street where the wild things are.

The music mix was everything auto tuned french rap (Jul) to the Stand By Me soundtrack to The A Team theme.

Roll on Week 9!

That sound awesome. 3 more runs to go and it sounds like you will blitz them.

Go prof go.

Good run for you but you should not have ran any longer than 28 minutes, if you don't keep to the program you risk injury, onwards and upwards to week 9 which are 3/30 minute runs, run 3 being your graduation run.

Ah that enthusiasm! It's a key point for many of us... and flags up what the programme is all about... teaching us to run continuously for 30 minutes regularly and sustainably (which is why the programme doesn't end at Week 9 Run 1)

We can of course do whatever we like with it (and some may be aiming never to run another step after graduation) but that's what the programme is about.

So you've got the joy and you've pushed it a bit. The sky is very unlikely to fall in (although if you didn't do the walk at the end or even substitute the walk for some good stretching, that's a problem). The trick now is not to think "Well, nothing went wrong, so I can do that again" (and again, and again... and then there's an injury or just mental burnout)

People are not fundamentally lazy. Some are underconfident and easily put off, others tend to the boom and bust. The programme has something for everyone if we understand it isn't just training the body.

Well done Lucas. That’s amazing you went beyond the 28minutrs. Obviously running agrees with you!

I'd agree with AlMorr and Googleme. The last thing you'd want at this stage is an injury. There's some excellent advice from Ianodda truffle pinned on this forum about how to safely increase distance. Happy, safe, running ☺️

That sounds brilliant! Well done. I had to repeat week 8 run 1 but this morning I completed run 3 in the pouring rain and it felt great!! I couldn’t have carried on like you though! It’s funny how I used to secretly mock people who I saw running and tell them to “jog on”!! How wrong I was! I’ve never felt fitter and get a real buzz from running and being able to run further each week. Week 9 here I come 😊

New route is a good idea.Risking injury when you're on a high?

I think you've been warned enough.

But good to hear how confident you are.

A Team theme tune sounds fantastic.

I think I'm going to have to sort out some playlists.

Not what you're looking for?
