Consolidation Run 4

Didn’t really fancy going for a run after work in the dark today but I forced myself to go out and get it done.

Decided I would go for a slow and steady one to help build up some endurance and stamina. It was my slowest 30 min run so far: the fastest km was 6.58mins, slowest was 7.12mins and the rest were somewhere in between (4.25km covered overall).

Was a bit deflated because I was hoping for a good run today and it turned out to be a bit of a ‘meh’ one (not bad but not great either) but I reminded myself that running is a work in progress, plus I’m still a newbie runner in the grand scheme of things! Also, running in the dark definitely isn’t my favourite which isn’t ideal given it’s getting dark even earlier these days, I much prefer a weekend or lunchtime run when I can get it done in the daylight.

Anyway, I hope everyone’s having a good week, I’m still loving reading about everyone’s progress as it motivates me to keep it up! 🏃🏼‍♀️☺️

That was a reasonable run for you today Laura, I agree with you that running in the dark isn't pleasant, with it being dark now from about 4.15 pm to 8am the weekend or at lunchtime are the best times for running.

Going to try a lunchtime run for my next one I think! The darkness definitely doesn’t help improve my mood 😅

Laura don’t be deflated . You should be proud that you actually went out . Very easy to take the easy route out and jump in your pyjamas and sit in front of the tv on these nights .

I’m sure on future runs you’ll be glad you e worked on your stamina !

Thanks Dix! Feeling a bit better about it now, thank you for the encouraging words, it’s much appreciated 😊

Hey Laura, don't be disheartened - that's pretty damn fast!!! I've just graduated and my best run average was 7:37/km!

I try and tell myself that so long as I don't get an injury, every run is progress!

I've not done a "night" run yet, not sure if it's for me so I admire you for cracking on and doing it (especially after work!!)

Thanks Tom! That’s a very good way of looking at it ☺️

You might enjoy a night time run! I think there’s something about running alone along poorly lit streets as a woman which puts me on edge a bit!

Well done for going out. It’s so hard when you really don’t feel like it. I think after work is hard too. It doesn’t sound like you had a bad run. A bad run would have been not going at all!

Thanks Pinkpig! You’re right, at least I made it out and completed the 30 minutes ☺️ Think I’ll try a lunchtime run next time instead.

Well done LR - I know it was one of your slowest but it was still pretty quick, if you were aiming for slow and steady you could've got a little slower 😲😁 You would've probably enjoyed it a little more too. ❓🤷‍♀️

We both had 'meh' runs today so maybe it was just something in the air! Back to gazelle runs soon I'm sure 💯🦌

Thank you! It’s weird isn’t it because it felt so slow at the time, like I was barely moving along at more than a walking pace... but then the stats said otherwise. I definitely wasn’t out of breath though so who knows 😂 maybe I’ll try going even slower next time.

Yes! Staying positive and fingers crossed for those gazelles next time 🦌🏃🏼‍♀️🎉

Another run under your belt 👍🏻 good going, especially as you didn't fancy it. Get the meh run out of the way and have a great one next time out 😁

Yes! Putting today’s run down as ‘progress’ and onwards to the next one 🤞🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

Hey Laura, well done on getting out there after work AND in the dark 👍🏻 That is dedication and you should feel pleased with yourself for that alone. We all have to have the 'meh' runs to really enjoy the 'gazelle' runs! It's another run in the bag, and more endurance built. That's a win I reckon 🙌🏻

The fact you didn’t fancy it but did anyway makes it your best run regardless of times don’t stop during the winter months been there done that and started again

That’s a very good way of looking at it! I’ll try and keep it up during the winter as it will be worth it to get to the spring weather ☺️

I’m the same as you, I much prefer the daytime and at the weekend- still did good though. I should have done my CR3 tonight but have spent hours trying to sort bank stuff out over the phone so I’ll have to give it a go tomorrow- I’m tempted to try running in my dinner hour again so I can run in the light but I’ve only done it once before and that was the only run I gave up on and went in -might see how I feel tomorrow- let’s hope we both get the gazelles out for the next run! 🦌

It’s annoying when things crop up but at least you were productive and got the bank stuff sorted.

Good luck for the run tomorrow, give it a go and see how it goes ☺️ 🦌🏃🏼‍♀️

Well done laura, for going out in the dark, most of my runs, are in the evening now, but i see what you mean, about a female, out running, alone, in the dark, i worry about my daughter sometimes, running late, on her own! Was looking at your times, thinking there pretty good, but you are 30 years younger than me! 😂

Thanks Peter! ☺️ I always let someone know where I’m going but it’s just not ideal, especially as I often run along back streets that aren’t lit very well.

Haha that’s true, I may be younger but I still find running a real challenge!! I couldn’t run longer than a few minutes before I started the app.

Hi Laura

I did my first run in the dark this week and only managed 25 mins running as late in from work and flagging. It’s definitely not as good as running in daylight on days off/ weekends but still buzzing at the commitment it shows so you should be too👍 I had bought a fluorescent hat with a rechargeable light which made it feel safer 😊

Glad to know it’s not just me struggling with the darkness!! Well done on getting out there and getting a run done 🥳

Maybe I need to invest in some sort of light too ✨
