Rest Day Planning Walk

I'm hoping one day to be able to run 5K and outside (on a treadmill at the moment) so decided to start walking some potential running routes maybe once a week. So today I walked 3.71 miles (Strava, 5.97K) with an elevation gain of 170ft and max elevation 364ft (not sure what that means), but it felt as thought a lot of it was uphill. The route was an equal mix of leaves, muddy lanes and paths. If I do this route again I would do it in reverse order. It was a beautiful fresh morning and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to Week 9 Run 1 tomorrow.

I'd done the first 8 weeks on a treadmill (with no incline) until yesterday when I was forced to start running outside because they closed the gym for the lockdown. I was fearful that I wouldn't manage to do the full run outdoors but picked a flat route and (with encouragement from some lovely people on here) just went for it........very slowly. I'm delighted to say I did manage the full run so I hope that gives you some encouragement. The fact that I was having to look out for wet leaves, black ice (I ran very early in the day), pot holes etc. occupied my mind and made the time go quicker. In fact one of the best things about the run was not having to try to stop myself watching the clock on the treadmill - I would torture myself with that! Good luck with week 9, nearly there!

I love off-road running and always try to walk them first.

The maximum elevation is the highest point on your run above sea level recorded by Strava. The elevation gain is the sum of all the uphill bits you’ve run on the recorded activity, I believe.
