Well, what can I say, i'm not great at really expressing myself, but so chuffed to get this done!!! πππππ
A year ago i decided to change things, after having had a pretty .... time of things, lost my wife, 2 years ago, to cancer, also 6 and 7 years ago, lost both my sisters, cancer again π‘!
So joined a gym, gave up smoking, lost about a stone, and just felt so much better with life, used cross trainer, and swimming pool, was told, by the manager, how bad running would be, for me!!! π
Infact, even now, all I here, apart from here, of course, is how bad running is for your knees, etc, i wont lie, my right knee was a bit painfull, about week 3/4, but once i'd slowed down, japanese running vidio helped alot.
All i can say is the c25k, has helped me so much, mentaly, and physicaly, and the programme works so well, building you up to the 30 mins running, i was naughty and did 35 mins, to get to 4km, but will now stick to 30 min runs for a few weeks, before increasing it.
Well, sorry if i've gone on a bit, didnt want it to sound like a sob story, just want to thank everyone on here, for their helpfull, possitive, and constructive comments, been a big help, anyone just starting, stick with it, you'll be soooo glad you did!!!

Congratulations you have done amazing, although how you gave up smoking and lost weight i donβt know, even with running and being mindful of what i eat i still put on a stone
Well thatβs out then for me, between working full time, running 3 times a week and walking when i can i havenβt time to fit anything else inπbut you must be so proud of yourself
Yes that must have done, I have worked all the year and itβs been more stressful and long hours so that didnβt help but 9 months smoke free is good and still running, the weight will go eventually
It doesn't sound like a sob story at all. Well done on graduating and well done for getting up, dusting yourself off and living, after what mustve been a nightmare for you. Am full of admiration π₯° x
Congratulations on graduating Peter! Such a great achievement to be proud of and I know your whole family would be proud too. We all start running for our own reasons and itβs important to remember those reasons when the going gets tough - so well done for sticking with it and completing C25K!! Time to celebrate π have a great weekend.
Itβs not a sob story, but one of rising up and braving the challenges. Sometimes running hursts a bit, but itβs so good mentally.
Iβve two more runs of week 9 to do. Iβm 3 stone lighter and seeing people complete this with far more on their plate than me really inspires me to run on
Yay! Congratulations Peter - you should feel so proud of yourself and so much stronger in body and mind π It wasn't a sob story at all, it just put into context what this has meant to you. Hats off to you - bloomin well done!
A very inspiring post from you Peter44, I hope you are very proud of yourself.
Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 9 and graduating from C25K π ππΎ π

You have expressed yourself beautifully, describing such a poignant path to your massive achievement today. I imagine itβs a deeply emotional moment full of memories, reflection and pride in your present success. Youβve done something amazing. Congratulations!! May your journey continue.
Well done Peter!! Youβve done really well. Iβm sorry to read about your wife and sisters, losing family is awful. My plan is to get as fit and proficient at running as I can so I can start raising money for things that have affected my family, such as Alzheimerβs, cancer and hear disease. I dwell on the negatives, so to have a goal like this really helps me.
Anyway, well done on smashing the programme, enjoy consolidation!
Well done, congratulations π₯³ I have just finished week 3, I feel really proud for getting this far. Itβs a great way for getting out in the fresh air early in the morning. I hope I do it, and can join the βgraduatesβ
Huge congratulations. What an inspirational story you should be so proud of yourself for getting up and keeping going after all that and then going on to achieve so much.
Thank you for those nice words, who thought running could be so theraputic! π
Well done Peter. Tomorrow (Sunday) I will be completing C25K for the second time in three years. I can empathise with your journey. Cancer is almost a family tradition. Itβs taken three grandparents, my parents, my brother and my younger sister has incurable cancer. Two years ago my back went and I need surgery. Long story short gain 3 stones and felt sh&t. So one day I decided it was time to do something about it and did C25K. like you shed a load of weight, enjoyed running and getting fit again. Decided I pay for a full medical to see how I was psychically. Iβm glad I did it showed I had prostate cancer finally had the operation In June this year after COVID postponed my March date. So back to today and looking forward to completing my final C25K tomorrow. Again fantastic news keep it up enjoy and remember you are running for you no one else. Congratulations
Blimey, and I thought we'd had things bad, life really can be .... at times, but you have to keep going, bit like a run i suppose! I feel so much for you, and what you've been through, i'm not always great with words, i sometimes think to myself, what else can go wrong!!! π
Good luck with your final run on sunday, look forward to seeing your post! πͺπͺπͺ
Thanks for that, just looked at your post about getting to week 9, i only did 4km, and ran for 35 mins, as long as you enjoy it, wouldnt worry too much about speed, although it does rankle me sometimes! ππ
Well done, you are right to feel proud of all that you have achieved. Life isnβt easy sometimes (to say the least π), but finding a way to overcome these challenges makes the next step easier. Enjoy your graduation glory π
Well done you ! Not a sob story at all , just reflecting what life has thrown at you , and how you have reacted . Keep it up . I was never sporty or a runner but after starting a few years ago I can truly say it greatly helped with my own tussle with cancer last year mentally and physically.
Thank you, and sorry to hear about your cancer issues, whatever life throws at us, just have to get up, dust ourselves down, and carry on, and running/exercise seems to be a big help!
Peter, not only am I very encouraged by your post as I'll start W9 today, but also understand how you have probably turned the depth of personal tragedy into a strength that you have channelled into personal achievement. That is the wonder of humanity right there in my book.
Well done is not enough sometimes and this is one of them. May you continue to continue your running and your life with the same inner strength that has brought you through to where you are today.
Brilliant news Peter. Many congratulations. Your story is one of great personal triumph and resilience. I am so glad running has given you an outlet. I have a feeling this is just the start of the journey! Be proud and thank you so much for the encouragement you have given me and others on this forum.
Thanks for that, your right, it's just the start, running wise, and with everything else going on at the moment, it's a nice release, to be out and about, good luck with your running! π
Congratulations Peter. We all start this journey for very different reasons and your post is so very inspirational to anyone out there starting their journey under very similar circumstances.
Thank you for your honesty and once again congratulations on your graduation π ππββοΈ
Delighted to see your post Peter, Congratulations!
Iβm so sorry to hear about your wife and sisters. I canβt begin to imagine the pain youβve been through. Todayβs achievement is a massive testament to your inner strength. Bloody well done.
Enjoy your graduation glow for days to come then get smashing consolidation! ππΌπ₯
Best of luck with your onward journey ππββοΈπππ

Brilliant π many congratulations π you should be mighty proud of yourself π Hope youβre still smiling π good luck with consolidating, keep going πͺ Enjoy your well deserved weekend!
Congratulations on your achievement, and for sharing your inspiring post. Life doesnβt go to plan and these terrible things that happen to the ones we love can really throw us off track. I am so glad that you have found running, I know how much it can improve mental health as well as physical health.
Congratulations Peter! Just catching up on everyone's graduation runs, you did it π
You should feel justifiably proud of yourself and how far you have come, particularly to pick yourself up from such a sad and difficult time you have had. I take my (running) hat off to you.
It's amazing isn't it, to think we could barely run 9 weeks ago and now, here we are: runners! Enjoy that grad feeling and see you on the other side now for consolidation runs π
Thanks for that, it does seem mad, how far we've come, i sometimes think when i give other people advise, how new to it, i am, and how am i in a position to give it! π
Hi Caroline, yep, still here, not been posting for a while now, and been pretty busy with life π€·ββοΈ not run for 9 days now, been away on a mini break, will try to go out tonight, when it cools down! π€ͺπ₯΅Hope your ok after the fall you had, your doing well with your HM training, i've not evrn done a 10k for ages!!! π€·ββοΈ
